Oregon State Supercross Championships Rounds 1-3: Deschutes County Fairgrounds Ccarcl. .r, . . . _h STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY LIGHT REDMOND, OR, SEPT. 14-16 r;:. MA National riders Mike Corder wand Jesse Bath waged a two-day battle for supremacy in the 125cc and 250cc Pro ranks during two of the three consecutive days of racing at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds, the opening three rounds of the Oregon State Supercross Championship Series. Bath. who recently returned to racing action after being sidelined by a four-month injury-induced layoff, was Friday night's top performer in the Pro portion of the program, promoted by Roby and Ryan Leach. Under the lights on the high desert, Bath was a threemoto winner on Friday, snaring overall wins in the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes aboard his Mike Taylor-tuned, Herb's Cycletown-backed Yamahas. Corder, who trailed Bath in both classes on Friday, turned the tables on Bath in a pair of Saturday wins. The Team Green/Pro Circuit-supported Corder clobbered the competition on the second day of racing, posting the 125cc and 250cc Pro-class wins and, like Bath, took home a good-sized chunk of money from the Pro purse. There were also several top performers in the Amateur ranks who raced all three days. KTM rider Pete Sannan soared to wins in the 125cc Junior class, but a perfect sweep would elude the 14-year-old from Albany, Oregon, as a crash while leading the Before The Hill class on Friday night would thwart his chances. On Friday night, there were several classes at overflow capacity, such as the 125cc Beginner class, which was split into two divisions. Suzuki rider Danny Costa and Brett Abernathy posted wins in Division One, but it was Costa who picked up the overall win. Aaron Haston swept both motos of Division Two to win overall, ahead of Seth Parrott (3-2) and Vance Kotal, whose unusually high 6-3 placings netted him third overall. Sannan swept both 125cc Junior motos to nab an overall win, ahead of Honda riders Colton Waibel (3-2) and Jimi Blackwell (2-3). Blackwell won the Before The Hill Junior class overall after Sannan's crash-induced third-place finish in moto one left Sannan (3- 1) second overall. Ryan Huege headed the field for the Before The Hill Intermediate-class win to complement his earlier 125cc Intermediate-class victory. Bath and Corder went head to head in four motos on Friday, but it was Bath's night to shine. In only his second race back after a lengthy layoff, Bath slammed the door shut on Corder's challenges to snare the 125cc and 250cc Pro-class wins and pocket $500 for his efforts. (Above) Jes"e Bath was the dominant rider during Friday night's program at the'Deschutes County Fairgrounds In Redmond, Oregon, winning the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes on the first of three consecutive days of racing. (Right! One of the weekend's top Amateur perfonners was KTM rider Pete Sannan, who dominated the 125cc Junior class. The best of all Pro action came in Saturday's second 250cc Pro moto. Bath, who was the dominant Pro rider on Friday, jumped out front at the unleashing and put large ground on Corder in the early stages. Corder, though, not only narrowed the gap on the former Californian who now lives in Oregon but also outjumped the YZ speedster to take the lead late in the 14lap moto. Corder then held off Bath's challenges to narrowly win and cap off a double-class decimation of his own. Sannan and Blackwell were also winners of the two 125cc Junior divisions on Saturday. Sannan put huge ground on the rest of the competition to cap off a two-class decimation on Saturday. Andy Holmes placed second to Sannan, while Costa finished third. c.J Baxter and Jacob Oberel filled out the top five. Blackwell posted a similar performance to win Division Two, finishing ahead of Waibel, Shawn Huege, Daniei Harris and Brandon Kentner. There were also two divisions of 80cc Beginner contestants. Hondamounted Chance Phipps' Division One win came in a wire-to-wire performance ahead of Jeremiah Sparks and Dylan Costa. Bradley Hillman was well on his way to a win in Division Two, but a crash dropped him well behind the field. Nick Dacus took control after Hillman's demise to score a win, ahead of Hillman, who charged from a half-lap back to snare second. Spencer Morgan finished third. On Sunday, the third and final round of the three-round series, Ryan Huege notched wins in the 125cc Intermediate and Before The Hill classes for a sweep of the weekend in the two classes. Sannan scored a 125cc Junior-class win to snare class wins at each of the three consecutive days of racing. Sannan trailed Huege in Sunday's Before The Hill class but finished ahead of Mitchell Robbins and Jimi Blackwell overall. eN Deschutes County fairgrounds Redmond, Oregan Results: September 14-1 & [Rounds 1-3 of 3] Friday WMN: 1.
