with the Handicap win. It was also Skirt Night:
Anyone who wore a skirt got in free. There
were a lot of guys who, quite frankly, stepped
out of GQ - and tripped.
On a more somber note, there was a very
moving tribute for all of the people who lost
their lives in the recent tragedy on the East
Coast. A pastor gave an invocation and a
moment of silence was observed.
The Sidecars racers decided that their
purse wouJd be donated to the victims of the
bombings. Joe Jones and Brandi McElroy, the
only boy-girl Sidecar team, won the main
event.
In the first Scratch semi, Bobby "Boogaloo
" Schwartz got the gate and the lead.
Shawn "Mad Dog" McConnell was running
second, but Josh Larsen made a move on the
outside and headed for Schwartz. It was a
photo finish, but the nod went to Schwartz.
Both would transfer to the main; while Chris
"The Kid" Manchester and McConnell headed
for the last-chance qualifier.
In the second semi, Charlie "The Edge"
Venegas, ready to defend his title, cut a great
gate. Fisher got close but had to settle for second. Randy "The Rocket" DiFrancesco and
"Flyin'" Mike Faria were LCQ-bound.
The LC could be a main anywhere, any
time. On the pole was DiFrancesco, with Faria
in two. On the outside were McConnell and
Manchester. It was gate, match and transfer
for Manchester in the quick four-Iapper. He
would be the final man in the main.
Venegas drew the pole for the main, with
Fisher in two and Larsen in three. Manchester
and Schwartz were in four and five. Venegas
got the gate but Fisher won the race to the
first tum and came away with the lead. Venegas was trying to find a way around, but then
Manchester made a move on Venegas that put
him in second. The order wouldn't change:
Fisher had the win. Schwartz and Larsen were
fourth and fifth.
In the Handicap main, Brant and Chad
Felicio were on the 30; Fisher, McConnell,
DiFrancesco and Ermolenko shared the 40,
and Larsen and Schwartz were on the 50. The
first try at a go saw the red come out when
DiFrancesco had a big roller.
They lined up again and got away clean,
with Brant out on top and going away. Felicio
ran second for one lap and then McConnell
took over second. Fisher moved into third.
Larsen got by Fisher on the next lap; Fisher
tried to repass but stepped off and his race
was over. Larsen held third. It was Brant.

John DeFries won the Support main, and
Doug Benjamin took Support B honors.
Peel passed Dean for first halfway through
lap one in race two. On lap two, he glanced
back and saw that Joell had passed Dean and
was closing. The two pulled away from the
pack. Joell, also competing in the 125cc C
class, couldn't duplicate hjs first-moto charge.
Peel netted the moto and overall wins. Dean
and Smith followed Joell across the finish.
KTM rider James Arias was the overall
winner in combined Pee Wee racing. Dylan
Scott led race one before losing positions to
Arias and Cobra-mounted J.T. Taylor. Will
Kozain and D.J. Oakes were fourth and fifth.
Scott led race two until Arias·shot past.
Taylor took a spill and Kozain grabbed third.
Arias was quickest out of the turns and made
short work of lapped traffic. He logged another
win, ahead of Scott, Kozain and Taylor.

The Reynolds brothers, Rick and Bill, each
claimed a class win on their Triple R Racing
machines at the rescheduled AHRMA Northeast Regional at Trail-Way Speedway. Rick
topped Bill in claiming the '70s Singles laurels, while Bill held off Ken Weiss for the
600cc Sportsman win. This event was a raindate makeup for the event originally scheduled for August 5. Rider turnout was down,
since many had made plans to run the
AHRMA National in Denver the following
weekend.
Most classes were run with at least one
other class, due to the small turnout. Melvin
Brown ran off and hid on his Triumph in the
combined Over 60/600cc Sportsman contest.
Since Brown was the only Over 60 rider, the
battle was for the Sportsman 600cc class, as
Bill Reynolds got a better start in the final than
in the heat, leading Weiss. The two had run
virtually nose to tail in their heat, and they did
the same in the final - except their places were
reversed. If Rey.nolds slipped off the groove
slightly, which can easily be done during after-
noon races at Trail- Way Weiss could have
I
charged into the lead.
Brown retumed later for the Over 50 class,
which could also have been have billed as a
750cc race, as all riders were mounted on big
bikes. Mike Keane was quickest off the line,
with Brown a close second. "Pops" Joe
Reynolds and Don Hughes followed. Keane
kept his ground-shaking Yamaha in front of
Brown's Triumph for the class win.
After the heats, regular 750cc rider Jim
Chapman was placed with the '70s Singles,
since no other 750cc rider showed up for the
heat. Chapman grabbed the lead from Rick
Reynolds, with Bill right behind and, sometimes. beside him. The Reynolds' family feud
brought them up to Chapman several times,
usually at the end of the straight, but Chapman was better off the tum. On the third lap,
Rick came up too quickly and had to drift high
to avoid Chapman. Bill was on the outside,
looking for an opening. After touching, Bill
took a soil sample of the track. After the race
was restarted, the Reynolds stayed close all
the way to the flag, with Rick taking the win.
Weiss jumped into the 250cc Sportsman
lead, with Bob Miller and Nick Taylor behind.
While Taylor's Yamaha sounded like it was
ready to quit, it actually ran pretty well once it
got under way. He easily got by Miller entering
the third turn on the second lap, and showed
the same move to Weiss on the following lap.
Once in the lead, he kept Weiss a safe distance behind.
