CMC TransCal Series South Round 2: Competition Park the series, this time leading every lap of both seven-lap motos with Team Green Kawasakis in pursuit all 14 trips around the course. A couple of thirds by Yamaha rider Scott Simon made his third overall an easy call. Not to be denied, Owens did get the 250cc Intermediate victory, taking both races in the second-wave run against the Pros. In fact, despite the handicap of starting late, Owens, (Left) Trent Pugmire won two classes (well••• three, unofficially) at the second round of the CMC TransCal series South. He was victorious In the renlnning of the opening round's 60cc (9-11) contest but was disqualified on a technicality; then won the class again and also the 80cc (7-11) class. Bv JOHN BETHEA PHOTOS BV BOB JONES SAN JACINTO, CA, SEPT. 23 t was showdown of Yamahas, twostrokes vs. four-strokes, when the 125cc Pros clashed at the CMC's second round of the White Brothers TransCal Nationals for Southern California racers at Competition Park. The only clear-cut result was that Jonathan Shimp swept the class on a thumper. Shimp, along with Gerrit Ordelman on another four-stroke, dominated the first contest from the early stages. His lead from the start was never challenged by Tommy Harrison's ring-ding-dinger, and when the twostroke faltered slightly on the fifth of seven laps, Ordelman was right there to take over the runner-up position to complete the four-cycle sweep. Ordelman then led briefly - less than a full lap - in the second round, only to be passed by Shimp before the initial tour was completed, and he eventually fell back to third, behind a hard-charging Danny Carlson, who shoved his F&S Suzuki into the thick of things on lap three. The yellow machine was surrounded by Yamahas, with two-stroke-mounted Michael Young passing Ordelman with less than three laps to go for third, followed by Ryan Orr and Harrison. In fact, Tim Weigand's TRE Honda, in seventh, was the only other non- YZ in the field. Overall, it was four-, two- and four-stroke, with Shimp, Young and Ordelman in the Yamaha blitz. Carlson, who managed only a fifth in the first moto, could only capture fourth overall in the final tally, even with the strength of his second-moto second-place finish, but he had already bested Young earlier (Left) Brooke Bohannon placed second In the Pee Wee (7-8) class and was the 60cc Beginner winner at Competition Parit. the 80cc (12-13) portion and Petrie the 80cc (14-16) division. Trent Pugmire was the other double-trophy receiver, but unofficially he was a triple winner, winning the same class twice in one dayl The very rare two overalls in one class in one day came about when riders protested the riding conditions of the second 60cc moto in the series opener two weeks ago. The water truck had come out prior to the second round's event, and when many riders crashed in the slick conditions, officials agreed to rerun the race at this meeting. Pugmire won but was disqualified on a technicality, which gave Kawasaki jockey Mitch Alcorn the victory, with KTM rider Michael Leib second. In the two-moto showing for this round's results, Pugmire scored easy back-to-back wins for the sweep, with Leib again second and Kawasaki pilot Nick Paluzzi third. Alcorn could only claim fourth this time out. Pugmire again went undefeated in the 80cc (7-11) rounds, with Axo Kawasaki rider Tanner Langham taking second with a 3-2 tally. eN Competition Parte San Jacinta, Califomla Results: September 23, 2001 IRound 21 Round 1, Rerun 60 SEQ: 1.
