Rollercoaster Racing Tour SX Series Round 13: Shelby Supercross Lamberts are Lions BY BARBARA WILLIAMS SHELBY, NC, SEPT. 1 ay Lambert of Denver, North Carolina, galloped his J-Farmbacked Honda to double wins at round 13 of the Rollercoaster Racing Tour Supercross Series, hog-tying both the Over 25 C/D and Over 30 C/D divisions. Toward the other end of the racing spectrum, aocc D Beginner rider Boyd Lambert Jr. from Bryson City, North Carolina, rode the Dal-Kawa/Lambert Drywall-sponsored Kawasaki to his first win ever, nailing the victory in aocc D Division Two. The two Lamberts are not related, but they both ride pretty well. Rain had blessed the surrounding region during the week, with more forecast for early in the afternoon. As a result, the entry was a bit down. However, nearly 300 riders showed up anyhow at Cleveland County Fairgrounds for the supercross, knowing they'd find a fun time, courtesy of JMX Racing Promotions. And the biggest water problem was - there wasn't enough of it. "You're probably wondering why the track is so dry, considering all the rain you've had at your house," commented JMX promoter Joe Williams during the riders' meeting. "We got maybe three drops all week here. We'll take extra time to water well before the first qualifying heats tonight." The JMX water truck soaked the track with twice as much water as usual, and still the track was not muddy. In fact, it turned out just about perfect. Ray Lambert led every lap of both the Over 30 C/D qualifier and main event, seriously challenged only by Dwayne Hill of Flat Rock, North Carolina, in the main. Hill was kept busy staying away from Pauline, South Carolina's Jonathan Bolton (a championship road racer who supercrosses for fun) and Johnson Construction's Darrell Warwick of Maiden, North Carolina. For some reason, Warwick was aboard a borrowed Honda; otherwise, he would have been more of a threat on his own Suzuki. Lambert's story was the same in the Over 25 C/D contest: From holeshot to checkered flag, Ray led the charge. Hill was not entered in this class, so it fell to Warwick to keep Lambert honest. Warwick made a valiant effort to stay with Lambert but, as before, he was hampered by unfamiliarity with his mount.
