Moore Jr. and the rest of the pack. By the
completion of lap one, Moore was running out
front, followed by Root and Cox. Moore put in

a flawless moto to stretch his lead to 10 seconds over Root by time the checkers fell.
Avazian crossed the line in third, with Kyle
Jones putting a last-lap pass on Cox for fourth.
Cox was again quickest out of the gate to
lead James Sendelbach, Root and Moore early
in moto two. Sendelbach used an inside move
to take the lead away from Cox on lap two,
with Root doing the same a short time later to
claim second place. Moore was closing in on
the front· runners but lost his front end in a
tum and found himself back in last place
before he could get restarted. Sendelbach
controlled the pace out front at the midway
point while having his hands fuJI with Root.
David Petcoff had made his way up into third
place after a midpack start and was feeling
pressure from AV8zian. Petcoff continued his
march toward the front, as he passed Root
and then Sendelbach just before the white
flag. Petcoff saw the checkers first, with Avazian squaring off under Root with only a couple
of tums left in the moto to take the overall on
a 3-2 score. Second went to Root (2-3), followed by Petcoff (7-1) and Moore (1-7).
The Vet Beginner class was a Greg Bennet
benefit. The CR250 pilot ran away from his competition in both motos. Assaf A1ush used consistent 3-3 rides to gamer second overall, topping
Robert Gebo (2-4) and Greg Stacy (6-2).
Consistency also played into the hands of
Craig Winston, as he went 2-2 for the 125cc
Beginner-class overall win. Ryan Butts used 6-1
finishes to top the 4-4 score of Ricky Phy for
the second-place trophy.
KX125-mounted Nicholas Burson was also
consistent - consistently out front, that is, as
he went four for four to sweep the Schoolboy
and 125cc Novice classes. Darin Chisholm
was runner-up in both Schoolboy races, ahead
of Casey Morris. Ricky Parks and Travis
Mehterian finished in second and third,
respectively. in the Novice class.

It was hot at Competition Park, with temperatures already up to 100 and getting hotter, but
the heat didn't seem to be a problem for
ROTMX club president Steve Donaldson_ He
set a blistering pace and rode flawlessly, staying in the front of things and enabled him to
take both moto wins in the Master B c18ss.
Carl Gazafy was also ablaze with energy,
gassing his Honda across the line closely
behind Donaldson each time.
Bill Schultz led his fellow Over 40 Experts
for three fast laps until Tim Williams charged
his Kawasaki past. Williams spun away in front
of the pack for another three laps, while an
aggressive Jack Roten was relentlessly wheeling his way up through the pack from a poor
beginning and caught and passed him. Roten
kept the intensity going and sewed up first, and
Williams followed. Chris Cumbo flew his
Yamaha into an early lead cmd ran an unbeatable pace to the very end of the race for the
second-mota victory. Williams didn't slow
down much either i!md scored another second.
Cumbo took the overall, with Williams second.
Over 50 Expert rider Jack Garland held
back all challengers in both motos for first
overall. Two lousy starts were only momentary setbacks for Ron Ryer, who wheeled his
way up through the pack with incredible speed
each time to grab two well-deserved secondplace finishes.
Jim Williams found his way around a fast
Ted Jenkins after chasing him for three laps
and then continued to outrun all the Over 40
Amateurs and pick up the big win at the finish.
John Timmermans snapped up second.
Williams continued his winning streak in
fine fashion with the moto-two holeshot and
an unpassable lead. Larry Fisher maneuvered
past other riders from his midpack start and
ripped across the fmish with second.
In Over 50 Amateur competition, Sam
English seemed the obvious winner after leading five fast laps, but things went wrong for
him and he ended as a DNF. Frank Derby was
hotly pursuing English and was right there to
take over the lead and then the win. C1eyon
Loonsfoot had his four-stroke Kawasaki there
in time for second, followed by Skeeter
McMurry in third. Ken Beach rounded things
off with fourth.
Derby came out with the early lead in
moto two but just couldn't hold back hardcharging Terry Messer, who swept past and
kept up the horsepower, owning the big win.
