IJ/!?T THJJCH SfPifS. 1 - T·N·T Raceway Thunder in Idalou By ANDREA HIGDON IDALOU, TX, AUG. 25 The final race of the Summer Night Series at T·N-T Raceway in Idalou, Texas, had a record turnout for the longest-running night race series in the state of Texasl More than 300 rid- ~ DEI mAR ers and just as many spectators were treated to a show in the sky as well as on the racetrack. Surrounded by severe thunderstorms and a great lightning show in the summer- night sky, the racing started with a bang and didn't slow down! The first race of the evening's schedule set the pace for a fast and furious night. The veteran riders in the Over 40 IT class were out to prove that they weren't just "the old guys." With more than one four-stroke being ridden in this full-gated class, the start was thunderous. Combined along with the veterans in the first race were the younger guys in the 50- .YAMAHA called "Enduro" class. A cloud of smoke from spinning tires when the gate dropped showed that a few riders had not mastered the technique required of a concrete starting pad, induding class favorite Tom Higdon, who nevertheless made short work of most of the pack, quickly latching on to the three lead riders of the Enduro class. With passes back and forth in almost comer, all four riders took the checkered flag within three seconds of each other. Cody Bounds took the win in the Enduro class, with Higdon taking the checkers in the Over 40 portion. At the start of the second moto, the racers were not only riding again~t each other but against the rain that had begun to fall. Getting off the slightly wet concrete starting pad proved to be a little bit of a challenge. This race was every bit a close as the first, espe~ cially when Higdon ran over Enduro-class rider Aaron Cadd in a rain·slickened comer. Cadd was able to remount and finish, with Bounds and Higdon taking the checkered flag in their respective classes within seconds of each other. Results 50 (4-5): I. Pllxton Short (Cob); 2.
