Corey Murphy emerged with the early lead in the first 250cc Intermediate moto, ahead of Neil Chisholm, Bobby Steffan and the rest of the pack. Caselli had problems on the opening lap and was next to last. Caselli proceeded to cut some blistering laps on the J.B. Memorial track and by the halfway point he had Murphy, who was still the front-runner, in his sights. With a lap remaining, a bobble on the part of Murphy dropped him to an eventual third· place finish, behind Caselli and Steffan. The second moto was more to Caselli's liking, as he put his Yamaha Motors/Answer/ FMF·backed YZ250 into the point position right out of the gate and continued on uncontested for the win. Colby Begin. who had his share of problems in mota one and finished fifth, bounced back with a strong runner-up finish for third overall, behind the consistent 3·3 rides of Murphy. Ward pretty much dominated the first 250cc Novice moto right from the drop of the gate. Adam Hurt trailed Ward throughout the moto for a second-place finish. Roy Ledoux, Brett Avaziam and Steven Kopy all took their turns running in third place, with Kopy taking his tum when it counted most, on the last lap. Kopy and Avaziam traded second place back and forth, with Kopy prevailing for the secondplace trophy. Third overall went to Hurt (2·4), followed by Avaziam (5·3) and Ledoux (4·5). JMG Motorsports/Air Masters-backed Frank Costanzo collected first-place payback in both the Old-Timers Masters A and Vet Expert/Pro dasses. Costanzo split moto wins with Ed Tripp in the A dass, with Don Bizzy and Mark Raich daiming third and fourth. respectively. Jon Zahrt held off Costazno for the Vet· class first·moto victory. but he encountered problems in moto two, which handed Costanzo the overall on a 2-1 score over the 3·2 of Tripp. Results PfW YAM.
