Schaffner answered the bell for round two, with Westbay hanging ail over his back fender. Morrow' immediately joined in and the top three were rockin'. As the race progressed, the top two were black and blue, and Westbay stayed just one bike behind, Schaffner edged Morrow at the checkers to snatch the overall 125cc Novice trophy in a fan's race, and just inches behind, Westbay nabbed the 250cc Novice overall. By DICK GOODWIN U\S VEGAS, NV, JULY 14 Levii HaJJ, bringing on down some of that Utah speed, waxed the combined 50cc race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Racing in the premier Intermediate division, Hall made short work of the entire field, storm· iog to double moto wins on his way to the overall. Tanner Krahenbuhl, another racer with National aspirations, blasted off to iead Beginners Mason Rodriguez and Killian Wader when the horn sounded for race one. Hall was haulin', zipping into second and then zapping Krahenbuhl in the first section to snag the point. Levii shifted into gear eight or nine as Krahenbuhl was screaming around the track, trying to keep him within reach. Hall continued on to a big moto-one win, with Krahenbuhl a solid second. Hail took control quickly in the second half, leading Woder and Rodriguez out onto the course. This time, Hall busted big and left everyone else in the dust. KrahenbuhJ did his best, raging through the pack and breaking into second by the end of lap one, but the damage had been done - Hall was long gone and on his way to win number two and the overall 50cc Intermediate crown. Krahenbuhl salvaged second, ahead of Branden Brown. You can never predict the best, closest, most exciting race of the night for certain; one can oniy guess, This night's candidate for the most riveting, heart-stopping, bring-out-thebig-oxygen-bottle contest was the combined 125/250cc Novice dust-up, in which 250cc hotshot Toe Westbay blasted off to lead 125cc heavyweights Rick Schaffner and Matt Scott Into battle, Schaffner elbowed past Westbay as Suzuki-mounted 125cc ace Ty Morrow worked his way up to challenge the leaders. By midrace, Morrow had earned second, and on lap four he whipped past Schaffner to take the lead. Round one went to Morrow, with Schaffner a close second. 64 AUGUST 22, 2001 • cue I e 250 NOV: 1. Marysville Fairgrounds Franklin County Fairgrounds Wade Dives Right In The Famous Andrich By RUPERT X, PEU£TT By RUPERT X. PELLETT MARYSVILLE, OH, JULY 4 Springfield, Ohio's Jason Wade has been one of Central Ohio's fast Expert racers for a few years now. It' s rare, though, when this talented rider puts together an evening of success like the one he did on July 4, As the Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series came to the city of Marysville, the home of Honda of America, fans lined the technical course assembled by promoter Tab Thomp~ son and his American Motor Sports crew to watch some intense motocross racing. Wade was "strictly business" all night at round seven of the series. He didn't just spank the money classes, either; using his trusty CR250, he put the hurt on the 16-24 age division as well. Wade captured a total of three classes on this night - a feat unparalleled in his short racing career, as the likable and popular racer stunned the crowd of fairgoers with some extremely fast and stylish racing and easily taking the 125cc A, 250cc A and 16-24 victories. Wade had to borrow a friend's RM 125 Suzuki to contest the 125cc division, but he quickly iearnl'd the bike and fiew to the front and stayed there to the checkers. Youngster Cody Gang had a great night. The Logan, Ohio, youth stormed off with the 65cc-c1ass win, and then ran an impressive third in Mini Junior competition, behind second-placed Jacob Meade and winner Joey Leadbeater. Bradley Baker stole the show in the 50cc (7-8) class, while Justin Witteman conquered the 50cc (4-6) division. Mark Roop scored some wins in the older guys' divisions, taking the Over 25 and Over 30 victories. Bill "Buffalo· Reiss beat the rest of the Over 40 class, sailing his CR250 to the win as he whipped his machine every which way but loose. HILLIARD, OH, JULY 14 A normally relaxed and passive individual, Steve "Animai" Andrich doffed the sheep's clothing and let the wolf come out, making a name for himself as the crowd of fairgoers were bending the fence in their attempts to catch a look at his fleeting MPS-backed Yamahas at the Hilliard Fair. At round eight of the Ohio Fair Motocross Series, the former resident of Califomia thumped his YZ250F in for three class wins, taking all the money in the Over 25 A division and the 125cc and 250cc A classes on this jump-infested circuit. The closest racing of the night for Andrich came in the 125cc A and Over 25 A races, run in a single-moto format. The extremely talented Dickie "The Dickster" Hoy of Newark, Ohio, got massive holeshots, despite being at a slight disadvantage, as he was facing the likes of National number 85, Andrich, and his fast YZ250F stroker, while Hoy was aboard his YZ125 and feeling the effects of some of the fair's greasy food in his stomach come race time. When the 125cc A class came off the line, Hoy was in front of Andrich as they stormed around the first turn, down the straight and through the fast, roliing whoops, Andrich simply attacked the whoops at full throttie, while Hoy, no siouch himself, slammed through them, too, and they left the pack behind. However, a mistake and a trip to the turf on lap three ended Hoy's chances of victory dance, while Andrich sailed home with the win. Hoy remounted and passed his way back up to third, while a strong Shaun Kuchler manhandled his CR125 home in second, Hoy and Andrich went at it again in Over 25 contest, though Andrich was again the man at the checkers. In 250cc A action, Jason Wade gave Andrich a good fight, but Andrich's experience and smooth control through the rhythm section proved to be the winning factors. Wade cruised in for second, with Josh Hamilton taking third on his F&S Suzuki. Results 50 (4·6): I. Jusufl Witteman (Cob): 2. Derek Stinson (Cob): 3. Christy King (Cob). 50 (7-8): I. Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Jason Brown flies to the 250cc Intermediate win in Las Vegas, Nevada. n e _ 51; Doug Stone, aboard a 10<125, took his third overall win at the fifth round of the Forward Motion Hare Scramble Series at Midwest Extreme Park, With 13 AA riders on the line, Carl Hanson, sponsored by Eric's Cycle Supply, took his CR250 to the hoieshot. Somehow, Stone scooted his 125 into second. Hanson had not taken a practice lap, so he let Stone move out ahead. Stone led Hanson around most of the first lap but soon turned up the pace. Hanson made a wrong turn, got off the trail and had to re-enter the race several seconds down. Iowa's Mark Burghardt held third but was overtaken by Santa Fe Cycles' Shane Dipasquale coming off the motocross course. Dipasquale took over second briefly when Hanson got off-course. Hanson soon worked his way past the Gas Gas rider to get back into the runner~up position. Out front, Stone was running at a blistering pace when a lapped rider crashed right in front of the KX ace. "J was coming up on this lapper in the grass section," Stone recounted. "He fell off
