Superbike and third in GTO and GTU.
At the end of the weekend, Mr. Fix
It/Sharkskinz/Blais Cycles/Vortex/
GBM Graphics-backed Martinez was
both the holeshot king and the
event's biggest overall winner, with a
total of four victories, winning Unlimited Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, Middleweight Superb ike and
Heavyweight Superbike. He also finished second in GTO, GTU and Middleweight Supersport.
Martinez led the entire Unlimited
Supersport race from start to finish.
He nailed an early lead in Heavyweight Supersport but was unable to
open the gap this time; Prieto held
down second for the first half of the
race until he blew the entrance to the
front chicane and John-O Bowman
took over second and maintained it to
the finish.
Martinez took the holeshot again in
Middleweight Superbike and opened
the gap on the rest of the pack. A few
laps later, Bowman maneuvered
ahead of Chris Cummings into second place, which he wouldn't relinquish. On the final lap, the top three
were spread apart fairly evenly as
they crossed the finish line.
Also, Martinez was out front for all
six laps of the Heavyweight Superbike race after nabbing yet another
holeshot. Early in the race, Macias
was only a few bike lengths behind as
they slowly opened a gap on thirdplaced Jim Pihokken, but with each
completed lap, Martinez increased his
pace and stepped away from Macias.
At the end, he won by 40 bike
lengths.

Touch-backed Carlos Macias took
the holeshot in the Unlimited Grand
Prix on his Ducati 996 and led the
race from start to finish. Shane Prieto
and Marco Martinez tried to pass him
at every corner, but his ride was flawless. While Macias dominated,
Gabriel Henning, Martinez and Prieto,
all on GSX-R750s, traded places a
few times behind him. About halfway,
Henning dropped back into fourth.
And then the race turned into a very
tight three-rider breakaway.
In second, Martinez had to work
twice as hard, trying to pass Macias
while keeping Prieto behind him. With
just two laps to go, Prieto maneuvered into second, but Martinez
quickly repassed him. On the final
lap, Macias worked even harder to
protect his line. In the final run, Prieto
repassed Martinez but was unable to
get around the leader. In a heated
charge for the checkers, Macias
maintained his advantage. It was
close at the finish; Macias finished
just barely ahead of Prieto and Martinez. Henning followed in fourth.
"It was a great battle between
Marco and I," Prieto said. "I kept getting on the tail of Carlos when I was
in front, but that thing has so much
power, he just pulls away."
"It's good to be back like this, winning - this is what I love," Macias said
through an interpreter, and he
thanked Desmomaniac, Capril Farms
Racing, and Dunlop Tires. He also
finished second in Heavyweight

tory-sponsored Prieto concluded the
weekend with three victories, beating
his competition in the GTO, GTU and
Middleweight Supers port races. He
also finished third in Heavyweight
Supersport.
Martinez was out front for most of
the GTO after taking the holeshot, but
the pack was close behind. John
Ashmead, Prieto and Pihokken were
swapping positions in the fight for the
front. With two laps to go, Ashmead
took over the lead, pulling Prieto right
behind him and bumping Martinez
down to third, but soon he crashed
out of the race. Prieto maintained the
advantage over Martinez to the finish.
Martinez also led most of the GTU.
taking yet another lead from the start.
Behind him, Prieto and Macias battled
for second. At halfway, Prieto maneuvered into second and closed the
door on Martinez. The race turned
into a two-rider breakaway for the
lead, which Prieto took over on the
next lap. He maintained the advantage for the remaining laps, finishing
ahead of Martinez and Macias.
Martinez was the early leader again
in Unlimited Supersport, with Prieto
and Macias close behind. With half
the race completed, the top three
were out front, alone, in a fierce battle for the lead. As they entered turn
six, Macias crashed out of the race.
On the next lap, Martinez missed a
gear going into turn 10. Prieto seized
the opportunity to take over and
charged ahead. With only one lap to
go, Martinez was unable to catch him.
Prieto took the victory, ahead of Martinez and Cummings.
Amateurs Darren Luck and Dennis
Bonneau cleaned up in most of their
classes, each going home with three
first-place trophies. Luck won the
GTU, Middleweight Supersport and
Middleweight Superbike events and
finished third in Heavyweight Supersport and Heavyweight Superbike.
Bonneau won the GT Lights, lightweight Superbike and Lightweight
Supersport contests and finished
fourth in Lightweight Grand Prix after
crashing in the chicane.
