/ CMC Pac West Nationals Round 7: Yakima Motorsports Complex Ryan Abrlgo topped the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate clas. .s at the penultimate round of the CMC Pac West NatIonals. STORV AND PHOTOS BV CLAV LIGHT YAKIMA, WA, JULY 14 awasaki-mounted Ryan Abrigo has been a consistent top-three finisher for much of the CMC Pac West Nationals, but today everything clicked for the rider from Snohomish, Washington. Abrigo had an awesome day at round seven of the eight-round series, posting the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate victories. Abrigo won three of the four motos he contested, topping both 250cc Intermediate motos and using a 2-1 tally to top the 125cc Intermediate class overall. Local rider Casey Jones put his Suzuki out front in the first 125cc Intermediate moto, but Jones' lead was a brief one. A lap later, Oregon's Tyler Fick assumed the lead and remained there to the finish. While Abrigo trailed Fick at moto's end, Honda-mounted Washingtonian Brandon Thomas worked through the field after a poor start to finish third. Thomas edged Jones for the position, while Shon Series rounded out the top five. Fick was on the gas again at the unleashing of moto two. Fick then fended off Abrigo for most of the moto, but Abrigo got around the former mini cycle speedster on the fifth lap to score the moto victory and the decisive overall win via his 2-1 tally. Fick (1-2) placed second overall, ahead of Thomas (3-3), Jones (4-7) and Yamaha rider David Rose (8-4). The 250cc Intermediate class was pretty much all Abrigo's. He darted out in front of the pack at the unleashing of the first moto, followed by Thomas. Kawasaki rider Jason Zuhlke put pressure on Thomas to snag the number-two position at the end of the moto, and Justin Lizotte also got around Thomas to snare third. K 36 AUGUST 15, 2001 • cue •• IAbove) Dan Moore was again the dominant rider in the Professional classes at the Yakima Motorsporb Complex, winning the 125cc, 250cc, Vet Over 25 and Over 30 Pro classes on his home track. (Left) Tyler F"lCk scored a win In the Before The Hill Intermediate class and placed second to Abrlgo in the 125cc Intermediate cia.. in Yakima, Washington. Moto two was all Abrigo's in a wire-to-wire performance, ahead of Thomas and Lizotte. Thomas netted second overa II (4 -2), ahead of Lizotte (3-3), Zuhlke (2-4) and Travis Flatsau (6-5). Dan Moore was again the dominant rider in the Professional classes. On what is considered the 31-yearold's home track, Moore carted off four wins for a sweep of the Pro ranks aboard his Tuning By Travis/Shumate-backed Suzukis. Yamaha-mounted Eric Waunch led the opening-lap parade in the first 125cc Pro moto, but it didn't take long for Moore, the former National number-97 holder, to drop Waunch to second; Moore took the lead on lap two and remained in the point position to the finish. The second- and third-place positions went to Team Green/Pro Circuit-backed Mike Corder and Team SMP's Mike Storm. Waunch and Garrhett Carter rounded out the top five. The fast-starting Storm darted out of the chute in moto two with one of his patented holeshots, but despite his impressive riding, Storm fell to an n • _ s eventual second-place finish. Moore capped off his 1-1 sweep with his impressive victory, while Storm (3-2) nabbed second overall, ahead of Waunch (4-3), Carter (5-4) and Corder, who had problems in moto two and went 2-7 for fifth overall. Moore also won both 250cc Pro motos. National number 95, Billy Binckley, jumped out in front in moto one, but that was as long as the Yamaha rider would maintain the lead, as Moore took command from that point to the finish. Corder was on the throttle, picking off numerous riders in his forward surge, finishing second to Moore. Binckley carded third, followed by Waunch, Mitch Merritt and J.R. vielle. Moto two was more of Moore: He nabbed the lead at the drop of the gate and at the end of eight laps earned his second double-moto sweep of the day. Binckley finished second ·to Moore, good for second overall, ahead of Waunch (4-3), Merritt (5-4) and vielle (6-5). Moore also captured impressive victories in the Vet Over 25 and Over 30 Pro classes, both also with 1-1 placings. Waunch, a series newcomer, placed second to Moore in the Vet class with 2-2 placings, ahead of Todd Hinders (3-3). In the Over 30 class, it was all Moore. Hinders trailed Moore at the finish for second overall on a 2-2 tally, but ahead of Oregon's J.R. Meusling (3-3). Honda-mounted Tony Boughten had a stellar day, posting victories in the elite Supermini class as well as a win in the 85cc (14-16) class. Boughten gave the competition the boot in the first Supermini moto, beating Kevin Urquhart and Ricky Dietrich. Moto two, though, was Idaho's Sam DeAtley's turn to shine. The diminutive DeAtley placed his Kawasaki in the number-one position to the finish. Boughten netted second, which was good for the overall win. Second overall went to DeAtley (4-1), followed by Urquhart (2-3). CIII Yskima MlItorsptlrls CGmplu Yskima, Wsshington RS5ub: July 14, ZOOI [Round 51 P/W (4-6): 1. Hunter Evanson (Cob): 2.
