Hangin g on to thi rd pl ace throu gh lap s o ne and two was Au br i Dunn, wit h Larry Sutton and Matt Hallmark hot on her wheels. Lap three dished up a soil sample fo r D un n in t h e whoo p s se c tio n, putting her a la p down before g etting under w ay again. Sutton , Hallmark and now Eric Rizzo ow ned what was left of th e top five all the way to the checkers. It was Upset City for Reese in m oto two whe n Reyes p u t h is YZ ou t fro nt, l ea v i ng Reese nothing but a rear fender to chase fo r all five la ps . Sutton pu t his YZ in to a solid thi rd, ahead of Hallmark and Dunn. Mi dway through lap one, it was Hallmark's tum for a get-off, m o ving Dunn and Rizzo into fourth and fifth, respectively . As the laps wound down, so did the o pport unities fo r anyone to move up or down , so at the ch eckers it was Reyes, Reese, Sutton , Dunn and Rizzo . The 80 cc Beginner cla ss is always a crowd pleaser. A stampeding herd of 29 yo ung upand - com er s left th e g a te and successfully made it through lap on e, with J ustin Morgan of Alpine, California , leading the way . Holding on ti ght to the next fou r spo ts we re Jeremy Stinett , Brandon Avalos, Arthur Van Order and Davi d Kenlon III. On laps two, three and four, Morga n went all o ut to hold hi s lead wh ile kee ping a wary eye on Van O rde r, wh o had m o ved up to second and was closing fast. Feld man o n Fire at S RA GP B y DAVE D A rN SAN BERNARDINO , CA , MAY 27 The Southland Racing Association gathered o n Memorial Day Weekend at Gl en Helen Raceway Park fo r ro un d five of th e ll-race series. The unfavorable weather conditions that have plag ued the majority of the series once again g reeted the riders . The cool tem peratures and heavy mist wreaked havoc on the ride rs' vis ion. Despite the conditions, Pete Feldman soldiered on to capture the overall in the Over 30 Amateur division . T h e Yamaha thumper ridden by Mondo Duran got the jump off the line and led the field into the first co me r. Todd Ferguson gated in seco nd . wi th Micha el Paulino , Feld m an and the Kawasaki-mounted La re Wardrop ro unding out the top five as the field headed north toward the canyon. With vision at a premium, Paulino wasted little time heading toward the front and entered Bud 's Creek with the lead. Ferguson moved up into second. Earl y leader Duran dropped to third and was rece iving heavy pressure from Feldman. Feldman's persistence paid off as he moved around Du ran and headed after Ferguson. Paulino conti nued to lead as they headed up Shoei Mountain. Feldman got around Ferguson at the ba se of Shoei. Paulino made a m is cu e at the top o f Sho ei Mou ntai n that dropped him out of conte ntio n. Feldman took full advantage of the situatio n and grabbed the lead, and he would remain un challenged for the remainder of the race. Fergu son moved up to sec o n d . Duran follow ed i n th ird , with Richard Hutton and Wardrop rou nding out th e top five . With the race past the halfway po int and virtually every rider witho ut gogg les, Feldm an co ntinued to pull away. The battle fo r seco nd throug h fourth was heavily co ntested between Hutton, Wardrop and a new comer to the m ix , J an Zuidenia. The tr io battl ed for several laps wi thin bik e le ngths of eac h ot he r. Zui denia was the first to make t he move as he got a ro und W ard rop and headed after Hutton in seco nd . Hutt on and Zuidenia co ntinued to battle fo r sec ond as Ward rop fell off the pace slightly . Zuidenia 's diligence paid off, as was abl e to work around Hutton to secure second. Hutton, now in third , had his hand s full with W ardrop , wh o was ge tti ng h is second wind. W ardrop p assed Hutton late in th e ra ce to secu re th ird . Fe ld ma n took th e c hec kers as th e 4 5-minute race ca me to an end. Zuiden ia and Wardrop too k the final spots on the podiurn in second and third, respectively. Fourth went to Hutton , and ferg uson m ov ed back up to fift h late in the race to rou nd ou t th e top five . R esults PfW 50 S: I . Eva n vere: 2 .
