Hometown boy Chris J ohnso n waxed the c ompetition in wh a t was on e of the few doub le-cla ss victo ries , pos ting the 80 cc (7 -1 1 ) and Sup ermin i (7 -II) victories aboard his Kawasaki. Heavy rain o ve rni g h t made the track a s lippery mess du ring the early stages of practice, bu t p rior to the com p letio n of th e sessions the cou rse ha d tu rned nearly perfect. The first to tackle the fam ous AMA National course were the c o m b ine d 80cc D age -group contestants . Za c h Carlin put his Ho nd a out in front of the 23rider field , foll ow ed by Yamaha mounted John Alden and KX jockey Sc ott y Blo om . Ca rlin and Bloom finished one-two, although bot h posted wins in their re s p e ct ive c lasse s , as Ca rlin topped the 80cc (7 -11) portion and Bloo m the 80cc ( 12 - 15) div ision , in both m ot os a nd overa ll as well. Honda -mounte d Er ic Lon e y o ve rc a me an opening -lap cra s h in th e first 125cc Pro moto to finish fourth and then led the abb reviated threelap second moto from wire to wire to s nare an overall win fo r the rider from Kelso , Washington . Oregon 's Mike Storm led Loney and the rest of t he field a t the unleashing of moto one , b ut Storm's impressive performance in the supertacky conditions came t o a p re m a t u re halt on lap thre e . Wit h a la rg e le ad in hand, Storm's CR s kidded to a stop, a tt ributed to bottom -end failure. "My bik e was go ing a lot fa s t er than I was ," sa id St orm , a member of th e SMP jum p team. "The track wa s d rying out great. It doesn't get m uch be tt e r than it wa s ." In S t o r m 's a bse nce , Ho n da rider Br ia n Zlo ck took t he point position until Pro Ca liber Suzukibacked T r a v is Murphy moved up to challenge . Murp hy made a move to nab the lead on lap three, and he rema ine d there to the finish, winn ing w ith a comfortable margin. Ano ther of th e many CR pilots in th e field , Kyle Van in t he end, Yamaha -mounted John Hueber p re va iled. Bryan Thi bedea u , Huber and J ames Hamilton waged a ' bruta l battle in th e first moto, which went in Hamilton 's fav or , while Todd Blan ch a rd netted third . Ho wev er , none of the three started moto two , and Huber , who fini s h e d fourth in moto on e, took command of the B porti on, tra iling Pros Loney and lin dema n to the finish to garner the 5 clas s ov era ll via 4 -1 placings. Adrian Carmicha el (5-3 ) wa s second overall , a he a d o f Jesse Meiers (7 -2) . O rego n's Anthony Ce rru ti (6-6) and Don Perrie (12-4) filled ou t the top five . Johnson's first of two overa ll wins on the day came in the 80cc (7- 11 ) class , one of the few classes run early e no ug h in th e pr ogram to run both m oto s . J ohns on took adv anta ge of Ka wa s ak i jo ck ey Shawn Haberlo c k's m echanical m isfortune in m oto one to (L eft) Jenny Pray decimated the Womenls class in Washougal, Washington, despite i nc red i bly muddy condit ions. Dyken , followed Murphy's fo rward surg e through traffic to a lso displace Zlock, fin ishing second. Zlock , Loney an d Kawa saki-mounted Tys on Lindeman filled the top five at moto's end. Moto two was held amid pouring ra in , b ut Lo ne y found the conditions to his liking and stayed upright to lead Lindema n to the finish. Of the ni ne sta rters, only two finis he d th e race . The 12 5cc 5 class ra n com bined with the ir Profe s s ional comrad es, a nd net a win in the day's best tra ck conditions. Ha be rloc k 's le a d was a brief one, as hi s KX suc c umbed to moto r problems and the rider from Portland, Oregon , wa s finish ed for the da y. Johns o n went o n a I -I ram pa ge to snare the ov e rall win , followed by J a ke Anst ett, Jake Pon ce and Sean Fitzgera ld, th e only four riders in the division to finish moto two . In the 80cc ( 12- 15 ) moto, Honda -m ou nte d Anthony Veto matched Johnson 's performances by a lso storming to a II sweep. Tyson Jansen (4-3) finish ed second overall to Veto , trailed by Or egon's J es s e Wuori (2 -6). Mike Prownier (8 -2) and Mike Passarge (9-5) . Johnson and Veto again went he ad to head in the com b ined Sup e rm in i class. J o hn so n ' s s e cond overall win cue I e in the Supermini (7 -11 ) class c a m e with an other 1- 1 sweep , while Veto was t h e crea m of th e cro p in the Supermin i (12- 15 ) class . In th e 250cc Pro c la ss, Don Bisce gli a s p lit m o t o win s with fellow Bea ver State ride r Forrest T ransue. Bisceg lia pulled the trigger fastest to le a d the first m oto (he ld amid ste ady ra infa ll) a nd then used his mud -riding expe rtis e to be a t Terry Hamness and Trans ue . Bisc eg lia led the first three laps of moto two. However, Tra nsue took command on th e fo urth a nd final ci rc uit. Bisceglia , though, gamered the overall win, a head of Transue (3-1) , Ya ma ha rider Ma tthew Punn (5- 3), Ma rs ha ll Favre (6 -4) and Hamness (2-DNS ). Bis ce glia also won the single- m oto Over 30 Pro class , ahead of Hamness and Jay Jackson .
