With its very first race , the brand -new track would get a severe test from the fast guys coming to race the AMA Loretta Lynn's area qualifier. The new layout a llows for a 180de gree left turn at the end of the start chute le a d ing d irectly int o the west end of the track . This tight section , with its ski jumps, drop-offs and copious twis ts and turns , c a use s motos to start out in an even more confusing and exciting manner than usua l. Th is was certa inly the case in the 65c c S to c k (7-9) class. Eli Tomac sn ap p e d up the ho le s h ot, a hea d of Co ry Mee ks , only to ha ve Trevor Re is and Du s t in Pipe s c o me ba rg in g through in the next fe w s e ctio n s to gr ab firs t and thi rd. Reis was flyi ng o ut in fro nt, bu t Toma c wo u ldn't le t go , lur king ju st b e h ind him unti l Trevo r bobbled and dropped to th ird. Thi s left Tomac with a comfortable cushion , and he cruised to the win, a head of Pipe s a nd a recovered Reis . Reis had the twitch in moto two, leading Tomac an d Pip es around the big t ree in t he fir s t tu rn . Pipes squeezed into second , but th en Tomac re pa ssed him.
