CMC Northwest Winter Motocross Series Round 9: Albany Motorsports Park Besides Graves, there were several other two-class winners, including 80cc (9-11) and Supermini-class victor Nick Randklev and Open Amateur and Over 30 Expert winner Ed Smith. In the next-to-Iast Husqvarna 50cc Challenge race, Glenn Prestholt and Justin Spink finished one-two, but Prestholt won by a large margin. Matthew Bisceglia, Jimmy Marquez and Jared Falls filled out the top five. eN STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY LIGHT ALBANY, OR, MAR. 11 ith the penultimate round of the CMC Northwest Winter Motocross Series shifting to outdoors, the outcome in the 250cc Pro class should have swung in favor of Ryan Leach at Albany Motorsports Park. However, Arenacross specialist Tony Graves handed Leach a loss on Leach's home turf to claim the class win, but, more importantly, Graves maintained his series point lead over Leach, 556-549. Graves, the former multi-time AMA National number holder, struck at the outdoor opener with two wins the aforementioned 250cc Pro-class victory, as well as a win in the Over 30 Pro class. The day was hardly a washout for Leach, though, as the rider from Albany netted a win in the competitive Before The Hill (16-24) Pro/Intermediate class aboard a Yamaha YZ426F. Leach overcame poor starts in both Before The Hill motos to snare the overall win via 1-1 placings, which came by large margins. Leach led fellow Professional riders Keith KadeU and J.R. Vielle to the finish in moto one. It took Leach less time to garner the lead in moto two, and he placed substantial ground on a close Joey Mancuso/Tyler Fick/Kadell swapfest, which went in KadeU's favor at the finish for a 2-2 tally. Mancuso (5-3), Ben Morgan (6-4) and Vielle (3- 7) rounded out the top five overall. Yamaha-mounted Gary Terlecki, a member of the Power Yamaha team, hammered the competition in the Up The Hill (25-29) class with a 1-1 sweep. Fellow Professional riders Roby Leach and Ryan Hagemann trailed Terlecki in motos one and two, respectively, but neither finished consistently in their other moto, so Suzuki rider Gerritt Schaffer (3-3) finished second overall, ahead of Hagemann (5-2). The fastest starter in the Northwest, Graves, pulled the trigger fastest to lead the first 250cc Pro/Intermediate contest - which was 19 riders strong - and maintained the point position from start to finish. Leach spent several laps working through traffic, steadily progressing up to second, and then he narrowed the gap on his teammate Graves, but Graves held off all of Leach's advances to take the win. Perhaps the most impressive performance in the class came from Honda-mounted Jon Kauffman, an Intermediate rider who finished third, ahead of Pros Terlecki, Devin Connaghan and Vielle. Moto two became a slugfest for the overall win after Leach clawed his way into contention. The veteran Graves slammed the door shut on all of Leach's advances, capping off a sweep of the class for the (Left) Tony Graves was a two-class winner at round nine of the CMC Northwest Winter Motocross Series, posting the 250cc and Over 30 Pro-class victories at the Albany Motorsports Park In Albany, Oregon. Vielle's consistent 1-2 placings earned the Washington rider the top money, ahead of Sun (2-3), Eakin (6-1), Randy Tuller (4-6) and Boe Teasdale (7-4). Yamaha-mounted Mark Voegele won the Over 40 Amateur portion overall via 2-1 placings, ahead of Greg Chapman (1-2) and Bob Meadows (43). Curtis Paulson finished eighth overall but maintained the class points lead, 487 -422, over Meadows. Leach (2-2), Terlecki (3-4), Vielle (5-3) and Connaghan (4-8) filled the top five overall. Washington's Keith Ford rode a flawless moto two to snag a win in the Intermediate portion, but the Kawasaki rider could only muster a 10th-place finish in moto one after a crash and was relegated to fifth overall, behind Kauffman (1-2), Tommy Blanton (4-4), Eric Rogers (3-5) and Mike Smith (6-3). One of the day's largest classes was, surprisingly, the Over 40 Pro/Intermediate class, with 34 riders. Tom Vielle took advantage of a crash on the part of Dave Eakin to top moto one. Eakin, though, came back strong to top moto two, ahead of Former Women's class champion Traci Fleming, another of the multitude of out-of-staters on hand, decimated the Women's class, handily beating the competition by nearly half a lap. The normally dominant Rochelle Neimann finished second overall (3-2), followed by Christina Claasen (2-3), Jennifer Davidson (44) and Jennifer Waibel (5-5). Kadell led the first 125cc Pro/Intermediate mota, but Washington's Kelvin Schoen was quick to take the lead two turns later. Schoen, Kadell and Mancuso stayed closely bunched up, but Mancuso took control and held the lead to the finish for a win, ahead of Kadell, Fick and Schoen. Fick came back strong in mota two, thus garnering the Intermediate overall win ahead of Schoen, Mike Smith, Mancuso and Ford. Kadell captured the Pro-class win, ahead of Suzuki rider Joe McCraw. cue I e Albany MotDrsporta Parte Albany, Oregon Results: March 11, 2001 (Round I of 10J P/W (4·6): 1. Motthew Bisceglio (Cob); 2.
