NMA Texas Winter National Oak Hill Motocross Park lead to the finish. Hewitt finished second, followed by McClintock and Richard White. Cunningham snatched the holeshot in the second moto and remained out front for the entire moto. Hewitt went down on the first lap and McClintock took over second, followed by Tyler Wharton, Mitch Gaylord, Josh Godfrey and White. On the second lap, White passed Godfrey for fifth, and they remained in that order to the finish. Cunningham took the win and McClintock second overall. Wharton used a 5-3 tally for third and White a 4-5 score for fourth. Gaylord rounded out the top five via a 8-4 finish. eN (Left) Dennis Jonon of Kansas not only set Oak Hill Motocross Part< on fire with his blistering pace In the 80cc Stock and Modified (12-13) events, he also owned the Supennini contest en route to a six-moto sweep at the NMA Texas Winter National in Decatur. By KAT SPANN AND THE BECKSTER PHOTOS BV KAT SPANN DECATUR, TX, FEB. 10·11 . , . earn Green/Pro Circuit/Axo/Acer, bis/Spy-sponsored Dennis Jonon put in six excellent performances in his three entered classes during the two-day NMA Texas Winter National hosted by the newest oasis motocross facility in north Texas, Oak Hill Motocross Park. The event had been postponed not once but twice due to inclement weather. With decades of history behind Oak Hill MX, the venue has been reborn under the new ownership of Jeff Pray and the guru of dirt, Blake Hamilton. The old buildings have been removed and replaced with a shiny-new 40-man backward-falling gate and a first-class two·story tower. Jonon's first time at the gate was in the 80cc Stock (J 2-13) class, which was double-gated with the older 80cc (14- 16) class. The first gate off was the 14- 16 class, with Jonathan Kerr taking the holeshot, but Bryan Zachary was leading out of the wooded section a few turns later. As an immediate battle between Kerr and Zachary ensued, Jonon left the second gate in a dead run to the first tum with Ike Jost and Lance Hollister. Jonon went too wide in the first turn, which gave both Jost and Hollister the lead. On lap one, Jonon recov· ered and took charge of the race, passing both Hollister and Jost for the lead. Once out front, Jonon was gone. By the end of the second lap, Jonon had already passed through the 14-16 pack to run third, behind the Kerr/Zachary war. Zachary continued to attack Kerr, but Kerr was firm in his position and blocked every move that Zachary tried to make. Kerr absconded with the holeshot in the second moto, but once again he was hunted down by Zachary off the start. As the two began another turn-to-turn battle for the lead, Kerr miscued over a jump near the end of the first lap and made contact with the ground - hard. Jonon once again got a start behind Jost, but in short order he found the lead and began to gnaw away at the first gate of riders in front of him. By the end of the third lap, Jonon was in second, behind Zachary, with Hollister right behind him and Jost behind him. Kerr ended with a DNF, which gave Zachary the 14-16 win with a 2- 1 tally. Jonon skated to a double-moto win for the 12-13 category. In the Supermini contest, Jonon thundered his way through the first turn to lead Kerr, Hollister, Zachary, Jost, John Baker and Trey Canard around the first lap. Canard fell on the second off-camber and yielded his position to Jeff Crutcher. Jonon set the pace for the race, and the others followed him all the way to the checkered flag. The second moto was a repeat of the first, with Jonon taking the holeshot and Kerr in second. Kerr got a cutting edge on Jonon for the lead. A few turns later, Jonon took the lead back in a corner near the tower. The front-runners blazed .the berms and tapped their bikes for all they were worth all the way to the finish. Zachary held down third, followed by Hollister into the final lap, when Hollister made a pass to finish third at the checkered flag for the same position overall. Zachary finished with a pair of fours for the same position overall. Canard rounded out the top five with a 7-5 score. Canard won both the 80cc (7-11) Stock and Mod divisions with a fourmoto sweep. Crutcher snared the holeshot in the first moto, but Kyle Cunningham took over the lead coming out of the first turn. On the first lap, Canard passed Cunningham for the lead. Crutcher finished second, followed by Cory Green, Jeffrey Fisher and Aaron McClintock. Crutcher got the second-moto holeshot, with Canard all over him coming out of the first turn and taking the lead in short order. Green gated third, followed by Cunningham and McClintock. Crutcher went down on the second lap, which moved everyone up a notch, where they remained until the end of the moto. Kyle Cunningham chased Hunter Hewitt through the first turn at the start of the 60cc Stock (9-11) contest, but Cunningham got around him on the first lap and held down the cue. e IIaIl Hill M _ ""iii Decatur, Teus Results: Feb.,...., 18-11, zaal 50 STK (0-6): 1.
