Jeramine Duncan rose above the fray in the hard-fought 125cc C division, notching a 1-1 score, while his many challengers faltered. In moto one, Duncan edged Jake Griffis for the holeshot in an exciting start. Duncan then set sail for the moto win. Meanwhile, Mark Ridgeway charged through traffic to eventually finish second, ahead of 'Griffis and Brandon Priegel. Priegel came back in the second moto and made a bid for the lead, but Duncan again held the advantage, netting a perfect score. Priegel was the runner-up with a 4-2 tally, over Ridgeway's 2-5 score. Griffis did not finish the final moto, while Kurt Schmeisser tumed in a strong ride, netting fourth overall via his 6-3 tally. Coming into this round, Proline/Freewheeling-backed James Mackey bad a perfect series record of six moto wins in 250cc C competition. Mackey continued his streak at round four, getting by Josh Aaron to win the day's opening moto. Mackey slowed during his secondmoto attempt and his streak came to an end when he took the flag in third spot. "I caught a rock on my arm," said Mackey, "and then my arm pumped up." Mackey's 1-3 score was still good enough for the overall, however. 54 FEBRUARY 28.2001 • cue •• Schmeisser exploded out of the pack to win moto two, netting the silver over Bill Cain in a points tie. Aaron was fourth. In the 125cc and 250cc B classes, Honda-mounted Ryan Elleby came away with all four moto wins. Elleby stormed to the opening 125cc B moto victory, leading from start to finish. In his remaining three motos, however, Elleby had 'to come from behind each time to earn the wihs. Capitol Cycle's Josh Fincner put his new four-stroke Yamaha through its paces and emerged with the Youth (12-15) division win by virtue of his tie-breaking second,moto win .over Jordan Meredith. Horris n _ ... S GAINESVIlLE, FL, JAN. 28 ean Dyess rolled for the fmal time at the last round of the Florida Winter Series and came out a winner. Dyess came into the final round only three points ahead of Ricky Renner and five points over Dominic Izzi in the 80cc (7 -11) class. The winner of the day would take the championship. Dyess worked his way around both to get the job done. The day was warm and sunny - a far cry from the first round. More than 450 riders tumed out for the final round. Izzi led the first moto, with Renner, Dyess, Travis Barlpw and Shawn Weech fa'llowing. The top' three soon spread out from the rest of the pack. The battle for the race and the championship was on. Renner tried numerous times to pass Izzi, while Dyess wa}Che4' in third. Renner finall~ got_ the job done after the elevator. On the last lap, Dyess made his move on Izzi. The two dived down into the gator pit. Going up the hill, Dyess got the drive' going to pass going over the tabletop. In moto two, Izzi was out front again. Dyess, Renner, Colten Maynard and Barlow were close behind. The top three once again pulled away. Dyess challenged around the sweeper but could not quite get the lead. Dyess again tried to outjump lzzi going into the pit. Izzi squared off the corner to retain the lead. Dyess made the pass stick after the finishline jump. Izzi lost second again on the last lap. Renner passed at the top of the elevator, giving Dyess enough time to pull out a few bike lengths and take the win. Kalen Fitzpatrick pulled the holeshot in the 50cc (7-8) class. Robby Huss, Grant Ransdell, Andrew Stocker and Justin Starling were not far behind. Starling moved to fourth, D with Damon Walker following. Starling took third for a short while before Tyler Moore moved up to pass Starling and Ransdell. The order was Fitzpatrick, Huss, Moore, Starling and Ransdell, but Ransdell repassed Starling on the side of the gatorback, at the dogleg. On the last lap, Huss closed the gap on Fitzpatrick and passed jumping off the back of the gatorback. Fitzpatrick ran into more problems and dropped back to fourth. Moore and Ransdell moved up to second and third, with Starling still in fifth. Fitzpatrick led the second moto, followed by Ransdell, Moore, Kory Keylon and Starling. Fitzpatrick took a spill that put him midpack, moving everyone up a spot. Ransdell was now in c.ommand. Mikey Morello moved to fifth. Fitzpatrick recovered to pass Morello in the pit and Keylon by the halfway mark. On the last lap, Fitzpatrick passed Starling for third. Ransdell. took the overall with a 3-1 score over Moore's 2-2 tally. Gatorback Cycle Park: Tyson Hadsell won the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes with a four-molo sweep at the fifth and final round of the Rorida Winter Series In Gainesville.
