at CRC Motocross

Aboard a pair of Pasadena Yamaha/White
Brothers/Answer-sponsored Yamahas, Shane
Smith went four for four to earn the 125cc and
250cc Intermediate-class wins at Los Angeles
County Raceway during California Racing
Club's Sunday motocross.
C.J. Mahon made his CRC Intermediate
debut a memorable one by nailing the 125cc
Intermediate-class holeshot and running out
front for the first four laps before Smith found
a way around him. Smith ended up with the
win, just ahead of Mahon. Donnie Durrer ran
in third the entire moto to finish in that position, ahead of Neil Chisholm.
Smith came out blazing in the second
moto, going wire to wire for the win. Troy Lee
Designs-backed DUTrer secured second-overall honors with 3-2 finishes, over the 4-3 score
of Chisholm.
The first 250cc Intermediate moto was all
Smith's. He made his way to the front of the
pack on the opening lap and walked away
with the win. Mahon kept Jimmy Chamberlin
at bay throughout the race to finish in second
place. Bo Williams worked his way around
Chisholm for fourth.
Chamberlin got the jump off the line in
round two to lead Smith and Williams. By lap
two, Smith was once again out front and slowly pulling away for his fourth moto win of the
day. Chamberlin went 3-2 for the secondplace trophy, followed by Chisholm (5-3) and
Williams (4-4).
YZ80-mounted Chad Abbott started off
CRe's first motocross of the new year with a
two-mote sweep of the 80cc Beginner class.
Abbott grabbed the early lead in moto one,
but by lap two he had fallen back to fourth
place and had his work cut out for him. Abbott
picked off a rider per lap to eventually see the
checkers first. over Andrew Rhoads. Jason
Sibley, who actually ran out front at one time,
finished third, ahead of Tim RiWer and Keith
Robinson.
Abbott left littie doubt he was the fastest in
the class, as the JMG Motorsports/N-Stylebacked rider controlled the pace out front during the second moto for a sweep of the field.
The second-place brass went to Rhoads on a
2-2 day, with Sibley, Ritzier and Ryan Clary
rounding out the top five.
