Top CRC Riders
Honored
By
GREa ROBERTSOI'I
PAI..J'\DALE, CA. JAN. 19
The Palmdale Ramada Inn banquet room was
filled to capacity for California Racing Club's
annual year-end awards ceremony.
Track announcer Don Gossett did his usual
outstanding job as emcee for the evening,
handing out numerous freebies to the crowd
on hand, as well as raffling off some muchappreciated raffle prizes from many of CRe's
sponsors.
The first half of the evening was dedicated
to those who did well in the recently completed five-race Sponsorship Series. Beautiful
plaques were awarded to those who were in
the top three in their class, along with A-, Band C-Ievel sponsorships for the 2001 season.
With the raised level of competition during the
Sponsorship Series, it was tough enough win·
ning one class, but a few riders managed to
pull through with double-class wins. Garrett
Norr came out on top of both the 80cc and
Supermini classes. Rob GoettJing topped the
250cc Beginner and Vet Beginner classes. Jim
Welch eamed the A-level sponsorship in the
Junior Vet Novice and Vel Novice ranks, and
Jeff Elde prevailed over a fast crowd to win
the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes.
The second half of the night honored those
riders who accumulated enough points
throughout the year to run with the CRC number-one plate for 200 I, which included Cobramounted Keith Robinson in the Pee Wee class
for the second year in a row. Shawn Butler will
wear the number-one plate in the 60cc class.
After a full year of racing, Mike Garcia eamed
the 80cc number-one piate by a single point
over Ricky Parks. Last year's BOcc numberone plate holder. Anthony Barbacovi, stepped
up to the 125cc class and won the numberone plate in his first year on the bigger bikes.
Neil Chisholm went from number two to nurn·
ber one in the 250cc class. Robbie Dunham
will be sporting the Junior Vet class number·
one plate for 2001. Darren Stoffer put in consistent rides all year long to earn the Vet class
number-one plate. And even though he
missed the last couple of months' worth of
racing in 2000 due to an injury. Bob Dunham
had enough of a points lead to still capture the
CRC Senior class number-one plate.
