CA, SEPT. 12 early 400 ride rs converged on the ZLT-operated Perris Raceway for th e ope ni n g ro u n d o f th e GFI Racing / Goat Eyewear / Axo /One Ind ustries /Noleen-sp onsorcd Fall Series. Per.. ris regu lars Bill y Payne a nd Donald Up ton started off the series in fine form by do minati ng the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes, respecti vely. Payne's d omin ation of the l25 cc Pro class bega n wit h the d rop of the gate in th e s ing le 20-m inu te m o to as h e absconded with the holeshot over roo kie . Pr os Gerrit Ord elman and Levi Reid. Tim Bea tty held fourth over a coup le of othe r ride rs making their GFI Pro debu t, Du s ty Walt e rs and M ich a el Sleete r. Chau ssee wo rked his way arou nd Beat- . ty on lap eight of the 12-lap race, but by then Payne was gone. In the end , it wa s th e Th ousand Oaks Kaw asa ki-backed Pa yne w it h th e wi n ove r Chau sse e. Beatty was third , w ith Young closing in on the final lap for a close fou rth. Brett Racin e overca me a terr ible start to nip Sleeter on the final lap for fifth . Racin e reversed his sta rting position in th e one -s ho t 250cc Pr o mot a as h e edged o u t Upton and Payne for th e holeshot. Upton forced his w ay under Racine jus t before the big VP Leap infield . double on th e opening lap to grab th e lead . Payne dr opped Racine back to third on th e foll ow ing lap a nd se t ou t a fter Upton. Billy Mercier held d own fourth, ahead of Zeb Armstrong and Sleeter. Up ton mainta ined a th ree- to four- second advantage over Payne until the halfway poi nt, when Payne went down in a tu m and drop ped to third , behind Racine. Yama ha-mounted Billy Lan inovich had a nearly perfect day, as he wen t 1-1 for the 125cc Intermediate Division One win . R.J. Thompson had to ove rcome a cou ple of mid pack starts to finis h runner-up to Laninovich in bot h motos. On . the other hand , Sean O' Connor used a couple of good sta rts to help him ru n at th e fron t of th is h uge cla ss an d ea rn th ird overa ll, ahea d of Bra nd on Milstead and Tu rbo Reif. After outjumping Jason Wood for the 250cc Intermed iat e-cl a ss lead on t he opening lap of mota one, Milstead led every lap for the win, Bullfrog Newcom er dogged Milstead towar d the end of th e ra ce before d evelo pi ng p robl ems and d ropping to fou rth, behind Wood and Brand on Prochnavy. Reif wasn' t a factor in the first mo to, bu t he mor e than mad e u p for it with a w ire-to-wire win of the second mo to on his Hon d a. Milstead gated withi n the top five, and by lap two he held down second place, w hich was good enough for the ove ra ll ho nors. Wood went 2-3 fo r seco nd over the 3-6 of Pr ochnavy and the 6-5 of Travis Smith. Sea n Colli er an d his p a ir o f Team Gre en / Thousa nd Oa ks /FMF/ Maximabacked' Kawasakis were untouchable in 80cc racing. Collier easily distanced himself fro m the p ack in both 80cc Exp ert motos. A first-mota crash held Cale Wallace to third overall behind the consistent 3-3 rides of Zac Wray. Ch ris No rr rode the lone Hond a entry to fou rth ove rall, ahead of ScottSimo n and Tyler Duncan . Collier a n d h is p ot en t Ka w a saki nail ed both holesho ts agains t 16 othe r Supermini competi tors and then checked out to a pair of convin cing wins. Wallace had to fight his way ou t of the de pths of the pack in both roun ds for a 2-2 score. Duncan held off Wray and Charlie Morrison a t the checkers during the second . moto for third overall. Morri son returned to pick u p an overall win of his own in the 80cc Intermediate clas s. Jarred Browne ace d th e firs t moto, wit h Morri son and Chase Meineke in hot purs u it. Morrison led every lap of rou nd two and held off Browne by a couple of bike lengths for a well-d eser ved v ic to ry . M ei neke made it a Yama ha swee p of the top three positions . Cobra rid er Tr evor Reis racked u p four straight mot o wins to top bot h the 50cc Stock (7-8) and 50cc Open classes. Casey Me llo sp lit runner-u p fi nis h es with Michael Truglia for second ove rall in the Stock class, with Tru glia returning on his new Cobra for second overall in the Open class, over Dakota Gamer and Colton Manwill. A firs t-mota crash held Tr en t Pu gmire to a se co n d- place finish behind Shawn Hayes in the 60cc Intermed iate class. Pu gm ire re bou nded with a ru nway second-mote pe rforma nce and then topped it off with a swee p of the 60cc Open field on his KX60.
