Lester had injured himself badly over two years ago and was slowly ma king his way back into rac e. He'd done the GNC last year a nd has been racing mu ch of the Loudon Road Racing Series this year. Among the Pros, Des Conboy was one of the other riders to take multiple wins. His came in the Expert Heavyweig h t En d u ra nce an d the Ex per t Unlimi ted Superbike. It was on the fifth of wha t wo uld be 20 laps tha t the Yam ah a R-l -equipped Con boy too k the lead in the end urance race, effectively usin g hea vy traffic to edge away fro m Steve Moriarty (on a Suz u ki GSX-R750) w he n C hou ina rd caused the red flag on the 21st lap. At the time, Conboy had nearly a 10-second lead . Kawasaki ZX-7-mounted Brett Guyer was given third when Choui nard wa sDQ'd . Scheehser had led the first seven laps befo re crash in g on the eigh th. Conboy w as close by when it happened a nd went on to beat Andrew Dunlap by over 18 seconds . Dunlap was on a Kawasaki 'Z:X-7, sandwiched bet ween the Rl-s of Conbo y a nd third -p la ced T imothy Bemisderfer. "I was pu lling up on him (Scheehser) to wa rd the m idd le of th e ra ce . H e cr ashed , tucked the fron t in tu rn 11," Conboy said . The w in n ett ed him th e cha m pi onship. There wa s one more race to go, the Expert Un limited Grand Pri x, but it wouldn' t end wel l. Whil e running in third, he tucked the front on the brakes in tum three. Th e most p rolifi c o f th e pros was Rich ard Doucette . He w on th ree rac es a n d was on th e box in three o thers, nearly wi nn ing a four th . T hat wa s in hi s first r a ce , th e Exp ert Unlimit ed Su p e rs p ort , in which th e top three fin ished within .69 of a s ec o n d o f on e anoth er . Michael Ca lderon won by .33 of a second , with Doucette second and John Lou nsbury third . All were on Suzuki GSX-R600s . Do uce tte was on his Suzuki SV650 tw in for the Expert Ligh tweigh t Supertwins race, which he won comfortably over the ' Ducati 74955 of Bob Robbins. Vahan Buchakjian was third. Doucette used the same machine to chase Jerry Wood all the way to the flag in the Expert Lig h tweig h t Su perb ike race, fi nis h ing second by .17 of a secon d . Kory Rooks was a distant third on his Yamaha RZ350. He tu rned the ta bles on Wood in the Expe rt Heavyweight Th u nderbike, beating him by over six se cond s in th e eig h t-la p rac e, both on the same bikes the y'd rid den earlier. Buchakjian was again third . There was a fourth in the Expert Middleweight Superspo rt and a third in the Expert Hea vyweig h t Si.lpers por t b e fore Dou ce t te card ed his final wi n, the Expe rt Ligh tweight Su perspo rt. The re wasn't much d r ama in tha t one. He had ove r 3.5 seconds in hand on the first lap and won the race by over 11, wi th John Donald second on a Yama ha FZR4 00 and Pet er Kol od ziej th ird on an other Suzuki SV650 tw in . Amo ng the non-pros, the rider with the most suc cess was Pet er Fell er , the Ame rica n importer for Mo torex, the oil w hic h Ma t Mladin u sed to clin ch th e MB A Superbik e t it le th e previous weekend. Feller took four wi ns and a very close second, the second being a warm-up act for his la ter succes s. It came aboard a Suzuki GSX-R600 in Jun io r Middl ewei gh t Endurance, th e first roce of the weekend, and he trailed David Sandel home by .36 of a seco nd at th e e nd o f th e half-hour rac e . Dal e Sea ton wa s farther back in third. Then the winning began. Fir st w as the Junior Middleweight Superbi ke, and it wa s th e sa me three r ide rs o n the box , th o u g h thi s tim e Feller was on top, about three seconds in front of Sandel, wi th Sea to n a close third. Seaton mo ved up to second in th e Junior Middleweight Gra nd Pri x, with Feller winning handily, by ove r eig ht seconds. Jose p h DiRu ss o p ress ured Seaton in third. Fell er-Sand el-Seat on was the order aga in in the Junior Middleweight Superspo rt, wi th Feller wi nning this one by a sca nt .038 of a second, with Sea ton well back in third.
