Chouinard's fina l wi n ca me in the final race of th e weekend , the Expert Unlimited Gra nd Prix, where he again rode the Suzuki GSX-R750 to victory, this time over the R-l Yama ha of John Scheehser. It was a flag-to-flag wi n and the 'final ma rgin of victory was 6.28 secon ds. "I like to ge t away at the beginning and p ut it on cru ise, " Chouina rd said . "Usually, in th at last race I'm runni ng agains t R-l s and sporti ng them 30 horsepower. I have to get the back (of the track) right because going down the front they' re gaining ." (Below) Jim Lester on his way to narrowly beating Scott Gree nwood in the Expe rt Middlewei ght Supe rsport final Scheehser in the Expert Mid d leweight Superbike, Jim Lester took tw o w in s, the first in the first race of the weekend , the 30- mi nu te Exper t Midd le weig h t End urance. Coming from an early third place, Lester picked his way throug h the field to ta ke ov er the lead on th e eighth of wha t would be 24 laps. Craig Babcock , also Hond a CBR600-mo unted , came back at him and the two swapped u ntil Lester blew by o n the 15th lap. Babcock hu ng around for a few laps, but Lester pulled ou t ove r 10 seconds by the end. His next win wouldn't be 50 easy. In Su n day's Premi er Ex pe rt Mid dl ew ei ght Su pers po rt Lester go t ou t fron t and was gaining nea rly a second a lap for the first half of the race. Then it got in teres ting . "I had a fou r-second gap and on the white flag I saw three seconds a nd let up a li ttle bit ," Lester said . "I looked back in turn two and Scott Greenwood was right there." Lester held him off, bu t by only .24 of "A fter those crashes, it's nice to finish on two wheels," Scheehser sa id afte r takin g second to Chou inard . The lone wi n was wi re-to-wire, w ith Jim Lester second , 3.76 second s ba ck . Scheehser was on a Yamaha 600, Lester a Honda. Michael Gall agh er was third on another Yamah a. "I w on one ra ce and spen t a lot of time on th e grou nd, " Scheehser, w ho crashed his R-6 twice and his R-l once, said. He also cras hed a Ka wasak i ZX-7 which he borrowed from Pen gu in Road Racin g Sc hoo l's Eric Wo od w hen Schee hse r w as taken out in turn one. The wo rst of the spills was in the Exp ert Middleweight Gra nd Prix. "I was go ing int o firs t pl ace on the firs t lap whe n I tucked the fro nt going in to the bowl, tum six," he said. "I too k a pretty good hit to my head, and in the last race I was qu es tion ab le about rid ing. I was seei ng stars in my rig ht eye ."
