KB Racing MX Lorenz oils 'em at KB Winter Series MX By BRET ECKERT SACRAMENTO,CA,DEC.19 T.J. Lorenz earned top honors in the 65cc Beginner class at round two of KB Racing Promotions' Winter Series. The KTM rider from Ukiah used a combination of good starts and consistent top-three finishes to edge out a flurry of top minicycle riders from throughout Northern California. Lorenz's win places him in a prime position in the best-four-of-five-race Winter Motocross Series, sponsored by area shops Apex Motorsports, MC Concepts, Roseville Cycle and Racers Pit Shop. Moto one began with the 65cc Beginners following the Novices into turn one on the expanded KB circuit. The Winter track consists of KB's Friday Night course, with a section of natural, "European" type track expanding the circuit's length by 50 percent. Stenson Womack, on a Kawasaki backed by Racers Pit Shop and Womack Racing, grabbed the holeshot, followed by c.J. Barham, Lorenz and Taylor Domschot. Womack set off on a good pace, but there was a lot of action going on behind him for the first couple of laps. Lorenz took over second, with Barham holding third and Domschot in fourth. John Narvarez maintained fifth, keeping Jared Lang and Keith Knight at bay. At the midpoint of the race, Lorenz finally got past Womack. There were no further changes until the final lap, when Domschot faded back, handing fourth to Knight, riding his Goodtimes Motosports/Racers Pit Shopsponsored Kawasaki. Jimmy Breneisen also benefited, moving into fifth by the finish. Knight started off strong in moto two, leading the way through the first couple of turns. Behind him were Lorenz, KTM rider Cody Lambott. Womack and Domschot. Lambott, out of Fairfield. was on a mission, intent on making up for a 12th-place first-moto finish. On lap two, Lambott displaced Lorenz for second and put the pressure on Knight up front. with the rest of the lop five ready to capitalize if anyone up front went down. After a couple more laps. Knight finally gave in to Lambott and dropped back one spot. effectively handing over the moto win. Lang also did well this moto, working up from a midpack start to finish fourth at the checkers. Following Lambott to the finish were Knight, Lorenz, Lang and Womack. Lorenz's 1-3 finishes were two points betthan Knight's 4-2 tally and claimed the overall on the day. Womack's 2-5 tally earned him the final podium place in third. t~r Results 50 SHAfT BEG: I. Jesse Andrews (Yam); 2. Ottie Harris (Yam): 3. Dillion Pavelchik (Hon); 4. Tailor Forbes (Yam): 5.
