Carlsbad Raceway Beatty produces a win at CMXR By KIRK CHANDlER CARLSBAD,CA,DEC.4 At the fifth round of the MotoPro Autumn Series, Tim Beatty took the overall in the Open Pro class. Beatty rode a fairly conservative race to garner the overall with 2~2 mota finishes. Finishing second on the day with a 1-3 score was the ultra-smooth Tyler King. At the start of the first mota, Beatty slid his Husqvarna CR125 into the lead. He was followed ferociously by King, Pete Murray and James De Ridder. Mike Sleeter was mired in sixth place. Without hesitation, King passed Beatty and began to open a lead. Beatty was unable to follow King forward, instead riding defensively because of the blazing-fast Suzuki of Murray. After the first lap, the order was King, Beatty, Murray, De Ridder, Nathan Pittman and Sleeter. On the third lap, there was some aweinspiring riding by Sleeter, who passed Pittman and De Ridder within one lap to move into fourth place. King was riding smoothly, way out front. Beatty was still in second with some breathing room over Murray, who was being challenged by Sleeter. With the laps winding down, Sleeter closed to Murray's back tire and made a last-lap pass that changed the way the overall fell at the end of the day. King crossed the line first with an average lap time of two minutes and three seconds on the full Carlsbad circuit. Beatty finished second, with Sleeter starting to breathe down his neck. Murray finished fourth. The start of the second mota had a full gate. Murray pulled the holeshot from the inside. King was running in second, with Beat~ ty in third. It looked as if King would displace Murray early on, but Murray had other plans, and he left the pack in his wake, King, who lost his rhythm from the first moto, was now left to fend off Beatty, who could almost taste the overall. Sleeter was running fourth and charging to catch the front three when he went down and broke his clutch lever; he cruised the rest of the mota to a fourth-place finish. Up at the front of the pack, Murray was riding the track masterfully. His lines were connecting perfectly and he had pulled a five-second lead over Beatty, who passed the fading King on the fifth lap. King, however, did not just roll over; he fought Beatty to the finish, finishing one second behind him. Murray won the mota, Beatty got second and the overall, and King finished third. lIlSJD ~~~~~~u. e Mororqcle Road Raclng on "The Fastest Track in the West" Motorcycle Road Racing 3 ...d Sunday every mon'th _lid BveDt - tJ-1UU7 IS & 16 INFO (661) 256-1234 """""""""""". rlGc_ - """".,..,c_co,.., MOTOCROSS RACING ASSOCIATION Racing Every Friday, Saturday & Sunday Open Riding Every Wednesday at Milan &SOIl>!
