After a hot and d ry race on Saturday, Morela nd 's deci ded to wa ter the track heavily for Sund ay' s race. Ho wever, Mother Na ture played a trick and dumped two inches of rain on the area overnight. Man y rid er s decided to stay ho me a nd not compete in the mu d - which is no t a good idea, because if ra cer s wa nt to be top professionals. they need to learn how to ride in the mud . This will teach many skills that carryover to ot her aspects of motocross. Also , on the natio nal circuit, there are no "thro w-away" eve nts, so racers need to be competitive no ma tter what the conditions. Those who were not afraid to get d irty had a • grea t day of racing. The 50, 60 an d BOcc classes all had a good turn uu t for the m uddy conditions. By th e sta rt of af ternoon practice , th e sun had started to come out and the trac k was drying out nicely . More rid ers came out, making for fa ir-sized classes.
