Willy Musgrave produced some fireworks of his ow n as he earned the firs t- p lac e cash with a determined second-mot a rid e in the Pro contest during Racing Enterprises Motorsports' wee kly Saturday Glen Helen Motocross. At the sta rt o f mota one, it was Musgrave s hoo ti ng hi s KTM SX380 in to t he lead as he ripped a clea n hol esh ot. Right in his shadow was Craig Davis , abo..lrd a Rick Peterso n Motor· sports YZ300 big-b or e. Third pl a ce wa s held d own by -Pa ul Kellen on his boomi n g YZ400 th u m p er, wh ile ve ter a n off- roa d ra cer Paul Krause rode in fourt h. A, the racers appca'red from the back section for the first time.. it wa s clea r that is was going to be a two-man ra ce be twe en Musgra ve a n d Davis . For th e first ha lf of the 20-minute moto, the battle for first pla ce was epic, as Musgr a ve an d Da vis rod e in tight form ation, dici ng for the lead . Musg rave was ab le to hold his advantage, while Davis refused to allow him to stretch out any sor t of a lead . Meanw hile , the ba ttle for third was hea tin g up, as Kra use push ed hi s Mo ntcla ir Ya mah a / MSR-bac ked YZ400 right up to the rear fender of Kellen a nd was lookin g for a way a ro und . The res t of the mota saw Davis turn up the wick, and he bega n to fl'el in Musgra ve at a ra te of one seco nd per lap . Finally. with two laps to go, Davis wa s ab le to run Musgrave d own and • make the pass for the lead . Abou t the same time, Kra us e fo und a wa y aro un d Kellen to secure third place. Wht..~ the cht.'Ckers cam e out, it was Davis taking the mota win, with Musgrav e tak · ing runner-up honors. Kraus e stayed in third , followed by Kellen .
