Tarantino pUlps Sarona Oaks By Homer Eubanks RAMONA, CA, MAR. 21 A total of 320 riders lined the gate at Barona Oaks Raceway in what was just the second of a , 21-race series. The spring weather drew a huge number of spectators. Those in attendance enjoyed a wide variety of motocross action ranging from Pros to Pee Wee Beginners and including a healthy field of Veteran riders. Josh Tarantino chipped away at the competition to take home the 250cc Pro purse in an event full of surprises. In moto one, Angelo lngrande brought his Suzuki around turn one first, with Todd Mitchell, Tarantino and Lars Larsson trailing. Just before the second lap, lngrande dropped his Suzuki, giving the lead to Mitchell. Tarantino also found liille traction and found himself brushing off the red Barona Oaks clay. The crash put Larsson in second until lap four, when he cut inside Mitchell for the lead. Tarantino was able to get back in the thick of thE! battle late in the rrtce and take the second spot from Mitchell. Before Tarantino could get settled in, Mitchell came back on the following lap and retook the position. At the checkered flag. it was Lars Larsson first, followed by Mitchell, Tarantino and Lngrande. The second moto seemed like it would be a repeat of the first moto. lngrande shot out of the gate and into tum one first. Tarantino grabbed the second spot, and Mitchell was ahead of Larsson. Tarantino put a charge on lngrande, and as they elbowed one another for most of the lap, the two racers kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. Ingrande held the position during this battle, but when the next wave hit", Ingrande saw Tarantino cut inside for the lead. Tarantino took the lead just as a bee found its way into lngrande's helmet, stinging him on the cheek. (ngrande lost the purse to Tarantino, but the bee paid the ultimate price: It was found crumpled up in lngrande:s helmet. Todd Mitchell earned second overall. with Lars Larsson taking third.
