ust over 300 riders from 18 states as
well as Italy, England, Canada and
Panama competed in round four of
the Unlimited Sports Florida Winter
AMA Series, held at Motocross of Marion County. Tony Lorusso and Paul Currie were the big winners on the day.
Lorusso topped the 125cc Pro division
while Currie won the 250cc Pro class on
the supercross-style course.
In the first 250cc Pro moto, Currie led
the 13-rider field into turn one with
Antho'ny Pocorobba, Lorusso, Barry
Carsten and Tyson Hadsell following.
Currie, on his F&S/Performance Engineering RM, pulled out an eight-second
lead - one that he would not relinquish over Pocorobba, Lorusso and ·Carsten.
The only rider to make progress on the
damp track was YZ400-mounted Keith
Johnson. Johnson sta rted around 10th and
worked his way into fifth by the finish.
When the gate dropped for moto
two, Currie once again led the charge
into turn one, with Lorusso, Pocorobba,
Hadsell and Carsten giving chase. Johnson started seventh this time: Lorusso
bobbled at the end of lap one, and
Pocorobba shot by. Currie and Pocorobba then opened up a lead ahead of the
field as the battle for fourth between
Hadsell, Carsten and Johnson heated
up. The three riders freight-trained
around the course until Johnson muscled his way into fourth.
Meanwhile, Currie put some ground
between himself and Pocorobba to score
the win. Pocorobba flew across the finish line to claim second, with Lorusso,
Johnson and Carsten rounding out the
top five places.
In the first 125cc Pro race, Carsten
shot into the lead with Hadsell and
Lorusso eating his roost. Suzuki-mounted Carsten led wire to wire to score the
ope.ning-moto win as Hadsell and
Lorusso fought for the runner-up spot.
With the checkered flag ou.t, Lorusso
parked Hadsell in the final turn to take
second. Hadsell recovered to finish third
over Currie and Pocorobba.
Lorusso rocketed out of the gate to
start moto two, with Jason Fink, Jarrett
Tipping, Currie and Pocorobba trailing
behind. Currie and Pocorobba moved
by Tipping and Fink on lap two while
closing in on leader Lorusso. Pocorobba
then fell in a turn, leaving Currie and
Lorusso to battle for the win. Currie
tried several times to make a move on
Lorusso, but Lorusso throttled away
each time, and he took the moto win
and the overall. Pocorobba remounted
to finish third, with Carsten and Johnson rounding out the top five.
Pocorobba also competed in the
125cc A and 250cc A classes; he recorded the overall in both. In the 125cc A
division, Pocorobba used a 1-2 score to
win over the 5-1 tally of Englana's Ryan
Voase. In the 250cc A race, Pocorobba
also used a 1-2 punch to win over Tipping's 4-1 score.

the easy lead, with Carsten and Crown
giving chase. Barton led until Carsten
