ichols was running fifth when he dropped out. As Musgrave continued to lead, Turner was erasing two seconds per lap. In the end, Turner closed to within three seconds of the leader as Musgrave took the checkers. Berg followed Turner, claiming third. In moto two, RM25O-mounted johnson convincingly secured the holeshot, with Berg. Turner, ichols and Musgrave giving chase. Berg wasted little time and took the lead from Southland Cycles-backed johnson before the end of the first lap. Before long, however, Berg had Turner breathing down his back. Turner desperately wanted around Berg, and he pulled off another amazing pass. Fourth-placed Musgrave explained why he was not in the run for the lead. 'The gate dropped kind of quick," he said. "I really wasn't ready for it."" Musgrave worked his way through the pack and started a three-way battle with Turner and Berg for the lead. Musgrave got around Berg first, claiming second, and then set his sights on Turner. The overall was up for grabs, and Musgrave would have to pass Turner to win it. As the laps wound down, Musgrave caught up to Turner and relentlessly tried to pass, but the experienced Turner was riding a very wide track. Musgrave made his move in the front section by the grandstands as he dived inside of Turner on the final tabletop and took the inside through the ve.ry tight S turns. Turner was not done: He held on to the throttle as the two made . contact. Both riders bobbled, but Musgrave recovered faster and took the lead. Turner tried to retaliate but couJd not keep the pace. Musgrave went on to take the checkers, with Turner second and Berg third. Results BEG: 1. Doug ~lInbn; 2. Chuck Ebea; 3. Kt.'\'m Gotto; 4. Dan Mabs; 5. jeff McEnlee. NOV: 1. Kip Contn=rM, 2. Bonacini then won the Four-Stroke class ahead of Yamaha rider Kenny McCann. Larry Legarra was another two-class victor, taking wins in the 2SOcc and Over 40 Vintage Expert classes, despite transmission problems with his 1974 Honda CR250. Another two-class decimation came frorn Yamaha-mounted Cathy Brown, a season first for the Oregonian. Light came back to convincingly win moto two, but Brown's ]-2 placing bested Ught's 4-1 tally. Ulver netted third with 3-3 showings. It was not much of a surprise when Maico· mounted Dermis Sweeten domin.,ted two classes, using hIs mud-riding expertise to take wins in the Under 40 and O(>en Evolution classes. Sweeten had to w rk for a win in U,e Open class, as Husk)' rider J.im s.,wtell and Sweeten traded leads during the first moto, which ended in Sweeten's favor.
