CARBONDALE, KS, NOV. 22
Former pro motocrosser Carl Hansen came
away the overall winner at the fu,al round of the
Kansas Hare Scramble series nt Santa Fe Trail
Cycle Park in Carbonda Ie, Kansas.
At the AA-class start, holeshol artisl Mike
Kruger got the jump on everyone aboard his
Topeka Cycle-backed KTM. Santa Fe Cycle's
Shane DiPasquale shoved his way past Kruger
in the IT section of the course moments later to
take over the lead.
The victim of a bad start, Hansen began to
pick off riders quickly, moving his way up
through the lead pack bel re completing the
first lap. Before long, Hansen was on
DiPasquale's rear wheel, making a bid for the
lead. Hansen slammed past DiPasquale to take
the lead just before starting lap two.
Soon after, Tom Klimm also passed
DiPasquale as well, but second place was not to
be for K1imm. Klimm suffered a crash, which
put him back in the U,ird spot. With Klimm out
of his hair, DiPasquale was able to keep sight 01
Hansen for several laps. Hansen, however, kept
up a torrid pace, pulling a two-minute lead
before the race was completed.
DiPasquale finished 50 seconds ahead of
Klimm'" KTM. The ride was a personal best for
Gas Gas-mounted Dipasquale.
"I ha a knee injury last summer and I final-·
ly got back into shape now that the season is
ove.r/' Hansen said later. "My main goal here
today wal) to see if] could lap my dad."
Having said that with a wry grin on his
face, the Hickman Racmg!Bieffe! Acerbis!

Speedway stars Tom Sephton and Kelvin
Herrala came out to do battle i.n lhe Vintage
class. Also featuring defending winter series
champ Kevin Quick and severaJ other talented
newcomers, the event proved to be a very competitive affair.
Sephton den\onstraled his speedway· fast
reflexes by nailing the holeshot, with Herrala,
Tom Smith and Tony Raferty in tow. Sephton set
a bUstering pace on his Suzuki, leading the first
Jap through the scoring shed, but Hondamounted Herrala kept the pressure on and
began pulling away from the rest of the field as
he followed Sephton.
Going through the dreaded swamp crossing,
Sephton chose an outside line and Herrala opted
for an inside route. The two riders were neck
and neck emerging from the other side of lhe
swamp, but a lapped rider was in Sephton's line.
Herrala shot by cleanly and headed off into the
woods. Sephton kept the heat on, but in the end
it was Binghamton Honda!K&R Cycle Salvage!
IT Racing-sponsored Herrala taking
the checkers. Sepbton took second, followed by
Smith.
The 201-25Occ Amateur class provided some
good excitement, as Honda-mounted Art Forrest
grabbed the holeshot, followed by Sean eal,
Mike Peters, ADen Carnrike and Greg Smith.
Forresl led the first three laps, causing a shakeup with the rest of the field. On lap four, however, the leader got bogged down in the swamp
long enough for second-placed Peters to catch
up and move into the point position. Forrest settled for second, but Carnrike was right there in
third. Eventually, Forrest surrendered to Carnrike.
At the finish, it was Kawasaki-mounted
Peters with the win. Carnrike took second, followed by Forrest and Smith.
