Suzuki pilot. When Bersano made the
pass, Sampson was able to fall in and
ride at the leader's pace, but not for long.
"Blair got away from me on the third
lap," claimed Sampson. "I overshot a
turn on a fire road and went down a little ravine. That's when he (Bersano)
pulled away from me."
Sampson remounted and picked up
his pace on the fourth lap, but it was not
soon enough.
Meanwhile, Ricketts and Maschino
were having an epic battle of their own
for third place, but Ricketts thought it
could have been better.
"Basically, I just had a slow day, and
everyone else had a better day,"
explained Ricketts.
"Poor traction," as Ricketts put it,
caused him to have a slower-than-usual
pace, but after some minor adjustments,
he began to pick up the pace. Ricketts
passed Maschino on the last lap for
good and began to make up time on second-placed Sampson. In all, Rickets
made up an entire minute on the last
lap, but it was too little and too late, and
Sampson still finished second.
Maschino took fOurUl and Steve Gordon, who worked his way up through
the pack after having a run-in with a
spectator, finished a well-deserved fifth.
Robert Patterson took sixth overall,
leaving the rest of the Vet A class in .the
dust. Patterson won the class by five
minutes over the next class competitor.
Finishing a minute behind Patterson
was Four-Stroke A-class winner. Harvey
Whitaker.
"I passed everybody, but the only
person I was looking for was Robert Patterson," said Team Green-backed
Whitaker, who was looking for some
friendly race action between himself and
Patterson.
Fredette Racing Products/Cycle
Path/MSR-backed Chad Froman won
the 200cc A division by getting the class
holeshot and never looking back. Froman also finished ninth overall for the
day.
Some 30 seconds behind Froman was
Sarge's Cycle/Oakley/Fox;backed P.A.
Allen, who clenched 10th place for his
first 250cc/Open A-class win. Allen
. fought a knock-down, drag-out battle
with Gary Hendricks and David
McWilliams to win the class.
"I was in the lead for most of the first
and second laps," said McWilliams. "He
(Allen) passes me every time towards
the end."
The Overall B honors in the 250cc
division went to Jason Russell, who finished an impressive 16th overall, foleN
lowed by class rival Jason Dickey.
