Schmitz has a string o f vic tories ove r a cou p le of ye ars, racin g in the O ve r 25, O ve r 30 an d Pro classes a t SVR circu it. With this bei ng the last MRA po ints race of the yea r, a good rid er tu rn out pr ovid ed some great racin g o n a we ll-prepa red track. Most of the firs t rou nd of motos we re pe rfect un til Mother Na ture overdid the wat er schtick and tu rn ed the second motos into sloppy messes. Bob Mason too k second overall in the Over 40 class behind Mackay after winning mo to one. He had a hard er time with the mud in moto two and had to sett le for seco nd, wit h Badbrush Design s' Je ff Clark ta king third . OCT. 11 Just ov er 330 riders competed in round four of the Unlimited Sports Flori da Gold Cup Seri es, held a t th e hi gh -fl ying Mot ocross of Ma rion County track. Kawa saki pilot Clint Shealy posted a four -mote sweep to win the 16-24 and 250cc B classes o n this fine day of raci ng action in the hot Florida sun . In the first 16-24 mo to, Shealy roc ke ted o ut of the ga te to lead the I3-ri de r field in to tum one to gra b the holesh ot . Davis Gui marines, Andre Boloni, Karsten Butler a nd Derrick }anuszyk followed in his roos t. Shea ly made good use of the cl ear tra ck ah ead and pulled away fro m the pack whil e Boloni slipped by Guima rines at the end of lap two to mov e int o second. Januszyk motored by Butler, with Sam Yannite lli following . When the chc'Ckered flag fell, Shealy took th e win , with Soloni, Guimarines, Yannitelli and Jan uszyk filling the top five. Whe n the gate dropped for mo to two, Shea ly once agai n fou nd himself at the front of the rat pa ck, wit h Butler, Januszyk, Guimarines and Boloni all trying to kee p pace. The posi tio ns stayed the same for the nex t four laps until the whi te flag came out. AI that po int , Guim.l rines gasSt.-d his KTM by Januszyk to move into third as Shealy flew across the ftnis h line to na b the moto and the owrall win of the day. Butl er held on to secu re second, with Guimarines, Januszyk and Boloni rounding out the top five positions. Shealy later returned to do battIe in the high ly competitive 250cc B d ivi sion, bu t he ha d to watch a s Steve Dumond blasted the firs t-mo ta holeshot ahead of him. Shealy made his mov e on lap two and oever looked back. Dumond held on for second, with Tim Eggers finishing third. In mota two, it was all Shealy, as he led wire-to-wire. OCT.3 Hea th H arrison a nd Bla ke Barr p u t th e fou l weather of Hurricane Geo rges behind them and hea d ed to West Flori da MX in Milton , w he re they blew thro ugh the com petitio n to score class wins in Pee Wee D an d 80cc D on an extensively reworked track. Ha rrison looked. st rong in the Pee Wee D heat race, wh ere he ended. up seco nd to Frankie Butler on a four-stroke Honda. Butler nabbed the holeshot, with Tr ey Quinn a nd Harrison close behind him. Harrison fell in two hairpin turns and had trouble in the sandy turns as welt bu t he stor med through the w hoop ~ectio n, which hel ped him wo rk his way up to second at the finish . He was sandwiched by ",,"inner Butler an d third-placed Qu inn . Dy lon Beesley absconded wit h the holesh ot in the Pee Wee D main, but in the seco nd tu m Harrison mad e a move aroun d the outside to bum Beesley an d Butler at the same time . Harriso n look ed stro ng a gain, as he dom ina ted the w hoo p section just as he ha d in the heat race. Butler was riding smoothly an d running a good pace, an d it looked like he mig ht catch Harrison, but he was held up for a few secon ds as tire pa ir came through lapped traf fic. An thony Salas took fourth, even though he had wha t looked like a painful crash with Bt..'"t."5ley early in the mota. Barr pulled away to cont rol the 80cc D heat ra ce after pa ssing quick sta rt er Orner Hel ms early in the race. Subsequently the action was all behind him .
