The season finale was orig inally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but two da ys of hea vy rain, along wi th rain tha t morn ing, forced officials to use one of the rar e dates for which they actually had a rain date sched uled . Sa nday was bright and sunny, the track was d ust-free, and , wi th the excep tion of a soft ru t in the first tu m . the track was the smoo thes t it has been this season. The 125cc B final was a d ose on e, as Jared Mee s took a ra re lead over Klinefelt e r, wit h Bry an Dou g la s a n d Ja son Is enn o ck cl o s e behind them . With Mees hold in g a close inside lin e, Kli n efelter went to t he outside of the g roov e a n d starte d to fin d a line, rn n n ing besi de Mees for almost half the race. As they sta rted the las t lap, Klinefelter took the lead for good a nd h eld o n fo r th e win by half a length. Mees aga in grabbed the lead at the start of the 250cc B class, trailed by Greg Sassaman, Joey Tyeryar a nd Bryan Dou glas. Tyer yar too k second at the start of the second lap, while lsennock used th e ou ts ide lin e to go into !h ird by th e fourth lap. Mees kept his Michael's H-D Cla ssics-spo nso red Hond a in front of Tyeryar to the end . Tyeryar la te r w ent on to win th e 600cc B final. Another close final ca me in the 85cc class, as Zac h Calcutt took th e lead - as he has d on e man y times this seaso n - with Sha wn Baer right behind him and Tra vis Sennett , Jonathan Jordan and Bryan Armstrong several lengths back. But for the firs t time th is seaso n, Ca lcu tt held o ff Baer, who wa s never more than a length or two back, to take a final win. By Rocky Hash Results so (U): 1. John Lon g (Act) . SO (7·8 ): 1. SA BERNARDINO, CA ocr. 12 N , Tony Amaradio took the measure of a very talented and fast pool of Pro racers during Racing En te rp rises Mo to s p or ts ' weekly Sa tu rday Motocros s at Glen Helen Racewa y Park as he bested the 125cc/ 250cc/Vet Combined Pro contest with a convincing doub le mo to swe ep. When the first moto got under wa y, it was M otocross Ac tio n 's " Wild " Willy Musgrave gra bbin g the holeshot on his Yamaha YZ250. Kawasaki rid er Billy Fra nk pushed his KX into the second slot, whi le Mar k Tilley had his KTM 125 in thir d . Th e fou rth spo t wa s occupied. by Gordon Ward on his TM, and Craig Smith had his RM in fifth. As the pack cam e out of the back section , Frank was the first to show up, having ma de the first -lap pass for the lead . Musgrave was now in second, while Ward had moved up to take over third. Ama radio completed lap one in sixth pl ace, ha vi n g suffered a poor sta rt. Frank continued to ride smoo thly out front . and he was able to p ut abo u t five seconds on Musgrave. Arn aradi o, ho w e ver, h ad sta rted hi s march to the front. The yz pilot put the pass on both Tilley and Ward to move u p to the third spot by the fourth lap . Musgrave was his next victim, and Amaradio passed him on the next lap to take over second place. Ou t front, Fra nk was imp ress ively hold ing his ow n, and Amaradio was only able to close about a second per lap on the Vet racer but close he did , and just as the two-lap signal was given, Am aradio went around Frank and took command of the race. Amaradio immediately opened up a two-second advantage, but as the d uo began to encount er lapped traffic, Frank closed to within a bike length of the leader. When the white flag came out, Amaradio cleared the tra ffic and held his adv an tage to the wire, taking the mota win. Frank was a close second, while 125cc Pro Ward had charged back up to claim third after.briefly stopping midmoto to gather a soil sam ple. Tilley was fourth, comp leting the race with no rear brake du e to fluid loss. Smith filled out the top five. At th e s tar t of mota tw o , Am a rad io was loo king to mak e his job easier this time, and he grabbed a b ig holesh ot. Frank settled into seca nd with another good start, while Ward put his TM 125 into third. Suz uki ride r Smith claimed fou rt h and Mu sgrave, now RM ed , was fifth. For the first half o f the race, Ama rad io couldn' t get away from Frank, as the Vet racer was ab le to han g with the National- leve l Pro. Ward was solid ly in the third , thou gh Tilley was kee ping him honest in fourth. As the moto wore on, Am ar ad io was ab le to stretch his lead on Frank, and when the two-l ap signal was given , he enjoyed a five-second advantage. wb en the checkers came out, it was Amarad io cru ising in for the mot o win to comp lete his perfect d ay. Frank wa s again next bes t, whi le Ward finished third . Mu sgrave claimed fourth a nd Tilley was fifth . On the da y, the lio n's share of the purse went to Amaradio with his ove rall victory.
