Libhart took easy wi ns in the 600cc Pro and Spo rts man classes, an d fought Nick Taylor for the 750 w in. Sweeten eas ily outdistanced the Over 30 and Over 40 field s, and also kep t you ngs ter Jake Johnson at bay for the 250cc win. With mo re than 30 regu lar riders attend ing th e Ind y event, all classes had red uced turnouts, w ith a few classes com bined with other class es, and so me not run at all. Dami an K(lCO \; n~ ran third off the second turn, with Dave Smith and Raun Wood close behi nd him. Kocovi nos slipped off the g roove at the end of the seco nd la p, letting Smith by. While john son is extremely fast w hen leading, he does have tro uble passi ng rid ers - m uch less o ne wi th the am ou nt of experie nce Sweeten has at making a bike \ovid e. With the front·ru nne rs sta ndi ng pa t, Woo d sta rted movin g, dis p lacing Kocovi nos fo r four th on the fourth leded to fight over the lead for the entire s ix~ la p fina l. Sm ith led most of the time, with DeMuro running the last half side by side w ith him , and br iefl y takin g the lead seve ral times . At the line, Smith held on for his first win by inch es. N ick Tayl o r provided some excit ement to the 500cc A two-va lve final. He fell going into the first tu rn at the start, and was more than half a lap behind Dave Smith, Barry High a nd Larry Hoffman af ter rem ounting . By the halfwa y flags he had go tte n by High an d Hoffman , bu t he cou ld n 't ca tch th e eve n ly ma tc hed Smith's ma chine . Hig h just hel d off Hoffman for third by inches.
