Machines ranged from standard dual sport and motocross bikes with a change of tires - to dirt lTack/IT racers, to full-on European-sty Ie Supermotard motorcycles. But when it came to the fastest mo torcycle , it was the Rotax.powered machine ridden by A.J. Herrera. Buttonwillow Raceway is currently trying to b uild a ba se of riders to ru n a regular se ries of races featu ring the hybrid bikes. Races have a lso been run at Willow Sp rings in Rosamond, Cali'fomia, and in Brem erton,'Washington . Ride rs were allowed two laps of practice to fam iliarize themselves with the track before grid ding for the sta rt. Sixteen rid ers filled four rows, and when the green flag flew, Elliot Iverson led the field on a Wood-Rotax IT machine, follo wed by Herrera and Mark Cemicky, bo th o n converted dual s po rt / m otocro ss bikes, and Kirk Feyerabend on a KTM Duke.
