Expert main eve n t, providing most of the firework s at the AMA District 27 IT held at th e
Castle Rock Clubgrounds - the second race of a
doubleheader weekend.
Simo nsen 's winning ways started off with his
heat-ra ce win over th e rid er wh o wou ld gi ve
h im fits all ni ght - Eri c Rickm an. Simo ns e n
used the out sid e pole position on the front row
to trail Rickman for man y lap s befo re t he
BBRP / C VSG/ Bud w eise r-backed Simon sen
overtoo k the up-and-coming Rickman to net
w ha t would be his third win of the season, coming in Eli Price's abse nce.
Na tiollt.ll number 39, Del Schnitzer, ran third
behind hi, fellow AMA veterans, but ahead of a
su r p ris ing ly fast Da vi d An derson. However,
Sch n itz e r aggravat e d h is inj u re d ank le a nd
d ropp<.'tl out, moving Ande""n to third . Up front,
it was SimOI1St.~ gra bbing the lead for keeps mid way through the 2O-Iapper to pick up win number
three and further his hopes for an Expert-d a..
title. Behin d Anderson were Ron Waters and St.'Cond -year Experts Joshua Currey and Beau Brown.
For the second nigh t in a row, a multi tude of
600cc Pro- Sport ride rs wer e in atte ndance. Bob
Mo ran and Pete Med calf won the firs t two hea t
races, but neither wou ld get the jump on the field
that George Prindiville and Tony Fox d id at the
u nl eas h ing . Moran clawed. h is wa y in to co ntenti o n af ter overco min g a mid pa ck s ta rt, firs t
ove rtaking Fox (w ho wa s th e previous nig ht 's
winner) and then finally Prindiville to open up a
big lead .
A crash brought the race to a premature halt
just when Moran looked as though he had a win
in the bag. On the sing le-file res tart, Mo ran wa s
faced with loomi ng adv ances from Fox, thou gh
Moran wou ld eventu ally s tretch o u t a decentsized lead.
