Assa f Alush sp lit moto wins wi th his friend and ri val Ga b i Abayo u to cla im t h e J u ni or Vet Novice-class overall win at Los Angeles County Racew ay 'd uring the Mot orsports Ne ws-spon· sored round of California Racing Club' s Saturday Night Motocross. Rick Knox was quickest out of the ga te to lead the firs t-mo to charge ahead of Aius h, Dino Ca tuogno an d Glen n Ardaini. Knox started feeling heavy pressur e from Alush by the thi rd lap, wit h Ca tuogno a nd Abayou joining in . Alush hounded Knox for a couple of lap s before knifing un de r him just after the FMF Tower to ru n out front. Knox stuck wit h Alush bu t had to settle for second at the checkers. The battle for th ird went do wn to the wire, with Ca tuogno prevailing ove r Abayou by a bike length . Alush grabbed th e ho les ho t in th e seco nd round, but Abayou hammered through a whoop sectio n to con trol the ICJd on lap one. From that po int on , the race belonged to CR250-mo unted Abayou as he slowly pulk-d away for the win . Alush co u ldn 't catc h Abayo u but was in no thre at of being caught from behind by Catuogno and earned the overall honors with his runner- . up finis h. Knox an d Ca tuogno argued over third until Knox sta lled in a corne r, allowing Catuogno to secu re the position with 3-3 rid es. Jose Rodriguez took hi s KX2S0 to a tw omoto sweep of the Old Tim ers Amateu r class. Bob Breac h kep t Rod rigu ez hone'St througho ut the firs t moto en route to his secon d-place finis h ahead of Jeff Hawthorn e an d Ken Beach. While Rodri guez ra n away with the seco nd mo to, Ha wthorne and Beach had 'a good d ice ove r second . Beach finally man aged to make his pass stick going up the over-and-under section with a lap rem aining to take seco nd place with his 4-2 score.
