The Fath ers ' Day program highlighted handling over horsepo wer on the virgin 3/8mile ov al. providing a var iety of cha ng ing su rfaces o n which to race throughout the da y. Vin tage 250s were the firs t to launch in to turn o ne in th e new tr a ck' s fir st main event. Ch uck Cla yton led fro m flag to flag. followed by Jim McMurren . Chris Apple overcame a bad start to take third fro m Tak e Mit sunori. . Mit sunori used th e lessuns lea rned in the Vintage race to g ra b a nd ho ld the lead in the 250cc Sportsma n race. Chad Morse pulled a textbook slide job on Matt Fisher in tum two o n the w hite-flag lap to snag the runner -up pos itio n. Many of the dass.ic bikes looked like m USf..'Urn pieces. bu t they are, after all, rac ing moto rcycles . Th e 600cc Pro race was the last of th e day, and by then the track had grooved up in the co rner entra nces . Jim Kesler was first in to tum one, ahea d of Perry Proielle, but bo th found tha t the tum-tw o s urface had not developed like the firs t tu m a nd s pun th e tires o n their Wood-Rotax ma ch ines .
