American Motorcycle Institute, a division of AMI Inc., has announced an affiliation between the SuperFlow Corporation and AMI for all AMI dynQ operations, including the annual Brute Horsepower Shootout that is held in Daytona Beach, Florida, during- Bike Week. Because of the Super Flow involvement, AMI is expanding its dyno motorcycle facility to 1000 square feet. According to AMI, the alliance between AMI and SuperFIow will "create the most advanced, innovative curriculum available for motorcycle dyno training being taught today anywhere in the United States." The Double Tree Hotel-Bradley International in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, formerly the Holiday Inn, has been designated the official race headquarters for the AMA 125/250cc Motocross National, scheduled for June 13-14 at Motocross 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts. With a goal of reviving the Sidecar World Cup, the FIM Executive Board has ratified, on an experimental basis and under the responsibility of the International Sidecar Racing Association, the following amendmen ts to the rules: "A ·new sidecar outfit, with the driver in a sitting position, has been accepted to take part in the World Cup. The participation of this outfit is on an experimental basis and thus will not be classified nor will receive prize money; in order to fill the grid for the 1998 season, the participation will be open to sidecar outfits with engines over 550cc up to 1200cc, four-stroke, four-cylinders maximum, which are· in use at the National level in various countries like Germany, Netherlands,. Sweden, Denmark, France and Great Britain." The Ghostriders Motorcycle Club, an off-highway organization with members from throughout the San Jose, Hollister and San Francisco Bay areas, presented a check for $4000 to the Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister, California, during a recen t ceremony at the hospital. The club raised the money over a three-month period by selling raffle tickets for a new Kawasaki KLX650 that was provided by GP Sports in San Jose and Grand Prix Cycles in Santa Clara. Greg Nichols purchased one ticket and won the motorcycle. The Ramada Inn on Route 8 in New. Hartford, New York, has been named the official race headquarters for the AMA 125/250cc National Motocross scheduled for July 18-19 at Unadilla. When Texan Colin Edwards II won the Italian round of the World Superbike Championship in Monza on May 10 (see our coverage on page 14), he became the 34th rider in the history of the championship to score a victory. Edwards had finished second four times and third six times but had never won a round in his previous three seasons in the World Superbike Series. Edwards' two wins in Italy were the 67th and 68th wins in the series for an American, with the United States heading the all-time win list over England, which has 49 total victories. The Texan's two wins on the Castrol Honda were also Honda's 38th and 39th victories in World Superbike racing - but they still trail Ducati by 95 race wins. Former World Superbike Champion Carl Fogarty is scheduled to take part in a shootout with Formula One car racer Eddie Irvine and his Ferrari F-l car. Fogarty will be aboard his Ducati 916 superbike. The shootout will take place at Misano in Italy.
