As I hope you know, we had one of the biggest turnouts in years with 23 sidecars. on the grid for Sunday's race. Yet in your coverage of the Laguna Seca race (Issue #16, April 29) there was no mention that I could find. We had many spectators down there and I just got a call from Q]le of them asking me. why Cycle News didn't even list the results from our race of the sidecar event. All I could say is that tlungs have changed grea tly since I was on the cover of Cycle News back in 1981 for winning the Long Beach GP sidecar race. Sidecar racing is making a serious comeback here in the United States and to find no mention of our event in your newspaper is strange since you have always been the number-one place to find the [at st news in motorcycling. . I hope you have been informed that we will be holding two more National events this year - at Elkhart Lake and Laconia during the AMA Superbike weekends. Since many people race many different types of motorcycles, I hope the future re!;ults of Sidecar Racers Association events, at least the ationals, be listed in your paper. Mark Bevans Bevans.mark@gene.ge.com We never sow any results from the sidecar event prior to leaving Ulguna Seca at 5 p.m. on Sunday night. Please make sure thaf your organization sends us results by our Monday deadline and you'll see the results ill the paper... Editor. Box 805, Tucker, GA 30085-0805 (770) 934-7850 FAX (770) 934-3112 Support your own For years I have enjoyed riding my motorcycle and have agonized at the loss of riding areas while also watching the growing restrictions on motorcycles. As I have written to my various legal representatives, my thoughts have rarely had'a sympathetic much less an understanding ear. Finally, one of our own (actually two of our own) are running for electiou here in California. Don Amador has filed to run against incumbent Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D) in California's 10th District Congressional race. The 10th District cov- ers part of Contra Costa County and Alameda County. Amador .is a spokesman for the Idaho-based Blue Ribbon Coalition, a "multiple use" group that advocates private property rights and "reform" of the Endangered Species Act, and is also an avid off-roader. A second person who deserves your money, your vote and your support is .David Pickett. David is running for the 5th District Assembly in California (the Sacramento area). He is another avid rider. He is the sanction steward and a member of the board for AMA District 36 for the past five years. He is also a life member of both the AMA and District 36. Now is the time for everyone in California to lend his or her support - letters and money. It doesn't matter that they are not in your area; the fact that the motorcycle community is committed to supporting them will help carry weight and surely influence their decisions and others' far beyond their jurisd iction. For everyone who does not reside in California, now is your chance to let politicians know across the United States that the motorcycle community is watching and will put its support behind issues and people it believes in. The fate of the motorcycle community here in California certainly has an impact all across the United States - so please help show that we are behind our own by making your financial commitment, too. Chris Carter Menlo Park, CA For more information on Don Amador's CIlmpaign, write to P.O. Box 2753, Antioch, CA 94531-2753, or phone 9251431-8405. Frame up I just read your 600cc sportbike comparison test and I think you guys are way off base. First of all, a CBR600F3 chassis is antique compared to the new-generation chassis on the Kawasaki ZX6R. I should inform you that I have owned two CBRs and both the first-generation. ZX6R and the 1998 ZX6R I now ride. Whenever you really push a CBR in race conditions, the frame tries to tie itself up in knots. Even Miguel DuHamel and Steve Crevier have said "you have to ride a CBR loose." Forks can be revalved, guys, but a mild steel frame is forever. The 600cc Su persport race results back up my claims - Kawasaki 3, Suzuki 1 and Honda absolutely zero. The Kawasaki and Suzuki rock. Jon Klein mcuguitar@ao/.com Make that Kawasaki 3, Suzuki 1 and Honda 1... Editor. Another Willow fan What a deal. For $30 you get in for three days of riding and racing, not to mention a program and free camping on Friday and Saturday nights. The staff at Willow Springs is great, with no hassles from anyone - whether in the pits or partying at night. If they do this again next year, I'll be there for sure. I might . ev~n shine on Laguna Seca. D. Russell Hairmann@aol.com No Larry fan I just read the comments from Larry Pegram about Willow Springs lnternational Raceway (Issue #17, May 6). It's not the race track, it's the wind and the heat. Pomona is a parking lot, not a race track. Larry, maybe next time you should try riding like it's a race track instead of riding like it's a parking lot.
