first lap was slightly longer, due to the fact that

re-en tered the race qu ickl y, bu t Thiele's Kawasaki suffered a bro ken throttle housing a nd he wa s
forced to return to the pits. He joined the race a
lap down an d tu rn ed in respecta ble la p times,
though not fast enough to ma ke u p for the lost
lap.
Chris Cepbnger wa s the first bike across the
river follo wed bv Brian Ga rrahan and Leivan,
Garr~han moved -into the lead after only a mi lf
o r so ... a nd Patrick G a rr a ha n m ove d a ro u n d
Lei va n and in to third. C ha d Busenbark he ld

Th e bottom fell ou t of Leivan's pla n to make
a no ther ru n at Brian Garrahan only a few miles
later a s he hit the dec k hard. "Thecra sh a llowed
Pat Garrahan to close th e gap, and the battle for
the win seemed to be o ve r. It was no w a race for
second.
Leivan go t up and was able to hol d off Pat
Ga rrahan for a while . but Pat m ad e the final
pa~ of the day at mile marker 15 to take control
of second . In the rod , 22-yea r-old Bria n Garrahan claimed the win on his Fox/ Srott/LE Suspe nsi o n-ba cked KTM 250, ahead of his broth er
Pat Garrahan (w ho sha res the same spo nso rs).
Leivan held on to the final podium posi tion. and
Busenbark faded a little o n the final lap , but still
turn ed in a wry respectable fourth-place finish .
