Nea rly 400 riders turned out to compete on the natural-terrain track. The tra ck was left in nca rperfect condition from a passing rains torm that ca me through Satu rd ay nigh t. lea, ring the- rid ers with excellent traction an d many places to pa ss. With 40 riders signed up in th e Se ni or C class. it was split into two hea ts, with the to p rid e rs from each going to the final hea t. Dea n Shelters a n d Mike Johnson each won t heir respective heats, white Carman and Les Draudt ea ch p la ced seco nd in th eir re sp ect iv e fir s t mo te s . Grabbing th e ea rly lead in the seco nd moto W M Ca rman, with Robert Ruehrwein and Rick Ver no n close behind .
