ProNotions in the Northeast Motocross Classic Series, kicking off at BroomeTioga Sports Center on May 18. John Callahan of Jackson, Wyoming, is the winner of the 1997 Cycle News/SeaDoo Sweepstakes. After listening to comments from nearly 50 off-highway vehicle enthusiasts and several wad motorcyclists, the San Diego (California) Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to continue its OHV trails plan feasibility study, which began nearly five years ago. An overflow crowd of more than 300, the majority of whom reside and recreate in San Diego County, attended this pivotal meeting on April 30 to show their support for the need for quality OHV recreation opportunities throughout the county. Flashback Racing Productions will hold an AHRMA/ AMA-sanctioned vintage motocross and riders' school at Mammoth Mountain in Mammoth, California, on April 8-10. For more information, call619/669-6845. With an elaborate Harley-Davidson Cafe scheduled to open in late 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Harley-Davidson announced a scheduled groundbreaking ceremony for Tuesday, May 6 at 11:30 a.m. The Harley-Davidson Cafe will be: a three-story, 20,000-square-foot facility which captures the unique character of the American motorcycle maker's heritage. Memorabilia featured at the new restaurant will include Harley-Davidson motorcycles belonging to actress AnnMargaret and pop-singer Billy Joel and a replica of the "Captain America" motorcycle used in the movie Easy Rider. The restaurant will also display selected models of Harley's current line as well as an extensive collection of souvenir merchandise for sale. One of the more popular viewing areas at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin - tum 12 or Canada Comer - will now feature bleacher seating for 1000 spectators. In addition to the new spec- tator area, Road America has also added a new Billy Mitchell bridge to get fans over the track from turn 13 to the paddock area. A bill that would create a special fund to allow Illinois counties and not-for-profit groups to expand that state's off-road riding opportunities has passed the state House of Representatives and now goes to the Sena te, according to the. AMA. The bill, HB 489, would create an off-road titling and registration program with part of the fees going to the Department of Natural Resources. The department, in turn, would create a fund managed by a committee of trailbike and ATV enthusiasts to provide grants for groups wishing to provide trail-riding opportunities. Pirelli recently presented $5300 to the AMA as its contribution to the Pirelli/Summers/ AMA Open Trail Fund. The amount marked an increase of $300 over the company's 1996 contribution. The Pirelli/ Summers/ AMA Open Trail Fund was created in 1995 when Pirelli Motorcycle Tires joined forces with multi-time off-road champion Scott Summers and the AMA to help preserve current off-road riding areas and to establish new ones. The first motorcycle road race in Connecticut in several years will be held at Stafford Motor Speedway on May 18. The event will be a U.S. Classic Racing Association vintage event run on the track's road circuit in conjunction with two events on the speedway's oval: an AMA asphalt flat-track motorcycle race and a Legends car race. A $50,000 sponsorship program for the AMA 125/250cc National Motocross Championship has been announced for the final 12 roUnds of the 13-race series, according to a release from Gerace Communications. The 'program is being underwritten by Skoal Bandit Racing and will pay the top-finishing non-factory Pro privateer in both the 125 and 250cc class. . Jay Leno has announced that he will serve as Grand Marshall of Love Ride 14, the largest motorcycle fund-raising event in the world, on November 9. Leno will lead a pack of 25,000 motorcyclists on a 50-mile caravan from HarleyDavidson of Glendale (California) to a concert, barbecue and motorcycle trade show at Castaic Lake in the Santa Clarita Valley.
