Spence>- PIn!ly a second· or third-place Expert when he was on a 250cc, Spurlock has found the extra speed to win after stepping up to the big-bore. Heavy rains three days before the race left the course almost perfect. The moist sand gave way to deep whoops in the woods, while some nasty creek crossings kept the riders guessing whfch line was safe. A creek crossing less than a mile from the end of the loop would prove to be a nightmare for some who took the wrong rut and ended up stuck in tank-deep mud. Four laps around this course was enough for anybody. Spurlock and Chris Tucker quickly found their way to the front of the large Expert class. While Spurlock raged around the track, Tucker kept pace in his effortless ridjng style that has earned him multiple wins this seasort..Spurlock feU on lap three, allowing Tucker to pass. Shortly thereafter, Tucker tangled with a Iapper and crashed, handing the lead back to Spurlock. who rode a mistake-free final lap to win a short distance ahead of Tucker. Eric Hillhouse and Bobby Southard were waging their own battle behind the leaders, with Hillhouse stealing third just seconds before the checkered flag. The Over 30 Expert class was led off the line by Louis Blackwell and Mike Sullivan, with John Davis hot on their heels. The three remained in that order for most of the race as Sullivan looked for places to pass Blackwell, and Davis rode hard to stay with the leaders. Sullivan, known for his mastery of this track, blasted around the outside of a turn to take the lead on the final lap. At the finish, he and Blackwell rode wheel-to-wheel while Davis finished a distant third. Results EX: 1. Billy Spurlock (Han); 2.. Chris Tucker (lCIw); 3. Eric Hillhouse (Kaw). 30+ EX: 1.
