Beau Brown, a new Pro-Am rider, took control of the 250cc class after shaking off minicycle
speedster Waite and Over 30 winner Todd Hill.
Brown opened up a large lea? and never looked
back to witness the diminutive Waite giving Hill
fits. Waite finally got around Hill, but by this
time, Brown was long gone.
Waite, though, didn't go away empty-handed, as he lapped all but second-place finisher
Mark Studebaker Jr. in the combined 6O/8Occ
final. The only real action occurred as Joey
Hazel and Timmy Haycock traded positions
throughout the final, with Hazel taking second.
Waite then came back to beat Sean Light for win
number two in the 125cc final.
The best race of the day, though, was the
Open Pro final, featuring seven of the orthwes~s top Pro-Am riders. Joe Lenz and George
Princliville were heat-race winners and took control of the 15-lap final, Lenz leading for three
la ps before Prindiville took over for keeps. Lenz
stayed close until a spill on the final lap placed
Jensen in second, ahead of Studebaker, Rick Fox
and Terry Akin.
