Ishmaels take Flying 'P' CC By Darryl Smith WEATHERFORD, TX, OCT. 6 The Ishmael family came home from the Flying 'P' Cross Country with first-place trophies as Marty Ishmael and his daughter Tabitha Freeman both claimed victory at Round 14 of the Texas Cross Country Racing Series. Ishmael got the star! he needed in the Open Expert class and blasted his KXSOO into the early lead. Ishmael rode an error-free race and was never headed, leading aU five laps of the 50-mile event. It was his first win in six years on the TCCRA circuit. Back in the pack, Todd Gleaves was second on lap one, but a few crashes put him back to fourth on lap two. Points leader Russ Clark just needed to finish to clinch his class championship, and he cruised home to a second-place finish a minute off Ishmael's pace. ShanI10n Butler brought his XR400 home in third while Bill Wright was a distant fifth on a CRSOO. Freeman earned the first win of her short career, topping the Ladies Amateur event. The 14-year-old Freeman has only been riding since last October, and racing since the season opened in February. Freeman started the year on an XR1OO, but at midyear she jumped on an XR200. Her results have been improving ever since. Donate to Freeman was the best of the IS-rider field and led every lap just like her dad, completing the race in 96 minutes. Amber Henson crashed hard, but battled back to beat Julie Shields for second place a minute behind Freemart. After the race, Henson passed out and had to be air· lifted to the hospital. Luckily, it turned out to be onJya concussion. Results THE AA 250...: 1. Davkt Cul~ (Suz); 2. Tom Robinson (Su.z); 3. Eric: Heli5 (Hus); 4. Bobby Soothard (KTM); 5. Frank Shad:1ee (Yam). AA 200: 1.
