Sellards smokes McArthur Motocross By carl Davis MCARlllUR, OH, JUNE 15-16 Broc Sellards put together a perfect weekend of racing by acing all four pro classes at the AMA Mideast Regional Qualifier for the loretta Lynn Amateur National, winning a total of 12 long motos and leading nearly all of them from start to finish. Mark Burkhart had everyone gunning for him in the Intermediate ranks as the hard-charging Honda rider fought off Karl Scott in the l2Scc classes and clashed with Michigan's Nick Way in the 250cc divisions. Scott pulled down a win in the 125cc B Modified second moto while Burkhart recoverd from a spill to move into second by moto's end and won every other 12Sec moto to win in both the Modified and Stock classes. Wey put a chink in Burkhart's armor by taking both 250cc titles as the Kawasaki pilot had things going his way in a good ride. Wey combined good starts and good tecnique through the rut-infested track to keep Burkhart at bay through the fmal 250cc motos, thus securing the wins. In the Vet classes Keith Bowen was the top dog, claiming the 25+ and Vet A-class wins going away. The KTM-mounted Bowen had his orange machine on fire and moving in style, winning every moto he entered. John Grewe rode to a secure second behind Bowen in both classes. Denny Swarts, another former factory rider, mowed down his 40+ competition to take a clean sweep of the class. Swartz cruised to victory in all three motos, chased by Jeff Heaston as the two riders pulled ahead of the pack. Canadian Bill Van Vugt Sr. took the 50+ win after battling throughout the weekend with Ohio legend Henry Greff. Greff took moto one while Van Vugt took motos two and three to nail down the victory. Road racing back in Chilliwack By Garry Radford CHD.l1WACK, BRITISH COLUMBlA,jUNE 16 Motorcycle road racing returned to the lower mainland of British Columbia for the first time in almost six years. John Belldin and Future West Promotions got together with the Chilliwack Airport Authority and the city council to promote a race at the airport. Over 180 entries and 4000 spectators arrived for the day's racing. The crowd was much larger than anticipated. A favorable response from the community would indicate that this could well become an annual event. Former Canadian Superbike Champion Michael Taylor from Toronto, Ontario, was the man to beat in 750cc Superbike. Thirty-six riders left the starting line and Taylor got out front early. He was chased hard by Murray Clift, Steve Dyck and the rest of the pack. Taylor soon depa!ted and took an easy win. Dyck drafted pass Clift at the finish line for second place. Local rider Scott Borthwick finished fourth ahead of the first rider on a 600cc machine, Darryl Fletcher. The best race of the day was 600cc Superbike.
