Fay, the Pro-class winner, flew to a win in the first of two qualifiers . while fellow nat ional number hold er Troy Rose topped the other. A Pro Trophy Dash, which took the top two from hea t races, was' topped by Fay. A lthough Fay we n t un contest ed with a sweep of th e evening's Pro festivities, it was Speedy Kel t w ho de live re d the race ' s most im pressive performance. After a crash earl y in the la-rider, 2Q-lap Pro final, Kell, wh o started off at the tail end of the pack on the single-file restart. carved his way from last to third in one lap. Th is set u p a stellar battle fo r seco n d between KelJ and Eric Rickman, which ultimately went Rickman's way . Prindville won the 250cc A ma in aboard a Suzuki. stre tching out his class poin ts lead after beating Todd Hill, Byron Dotson and Dav e Mahler. Hill was on of three Oregonian rider s in the winner's circl e after an Ove r 30 250cc win. The others were Sean Ught, who won the 125cc A and SOcc B mains, and Over 40 win ner Todd Tracy . Cons istency was Brooks' forte as on ly the deterio rat in g conditions in the mu d dy logs of section se ven caused any increase in h is loo p scores. Brad Eaton tu rned in competitive scores on the second an d th ir d loo ps , bu t num e rous d abs on the first loop caused him to finish in second place. Roger Annable was the w inner in the Pre-mie r B class, and his score of 2 on the da y left the co mpetition no margin for error. After a two-ye ar absence from Prem ier competition. Jeff Chambers returned to run head-to-head with Annable for the first two loops. A 5 on the log in section seven on the third loop left Chambers in second place on the da y. Warren KleIs and Bill Gallow ay ma tched each other sectio n by seetion throughout the da y to finish in a tie for third place. Scott Wocrth led from start to finish for the Classic A-class victory. Pete Slesser encountered difficulties in the fi~t fou r sections but halved his score on the second loop to move into third p lace , where he fini sh ed th e da y behind Ra y Donet . The highl y competitive Classic B class was tre at ed to the sight of some new face s at the head of the pack. John Stark set the pace on the first loop with a score of 6. Tim Slifer with 7 and Rick Tumbusch wi th 8 marks he ld second and th ird pia,,,. rl'5pcctivel y. Stark scored the maximum 5 in muddy section seven, whi ch helped to double h is second- loo p score and drop him to second p lace. Mea nw h ile, Slifer turned in an exce llent th r e e ~ m a rk loop to move into first place. Slifer contin ued his consistent ridi ng for th e w in on th e d a y . Morais looked un beatable in the first mot e, but in mot o two, Lollor got the holeshot and a strong lead. He was able to hold off several attacks from Tidwell and Morais for the moto win and the overa ll.. MAR.31 Leo Tidwell and Cory Morais split 12Scc Intermed iate-class moto wins with Tidwell getti ng the top honors ove rall at Hollister Hills SRVA du ring roun d two of the AM P Ra cin g 1996 Spring Series. As soon as the rost er an d race order were posted, it wa s clear that some serio us competition would be taking place in the 12Scc and 250cc Intennediate ranks. When the gate dropped on the first 125cc Int ermediat e-clas s moto, Hawk White got the holesh ot, bu t not by much. Morais jumped into the lead ea rly in the first lap. White kept close in seco nd wh ile Tidwell and Paul Temmerman wrestled for control of third. By la p four Morai s and Whit e began to pick u p the pace, pu lling ahe ad of the others. They stayed very close lap after lap. Tidwell got by Temmerman for third. In the last cor ner, 40 feet from the finish line, White mad e a desperate move to cut Morai s off. Crash ing his bike into Morais, they both went dov..'11 3..'; Tidwell and Temmerman went waltz· ing by ,nd crossed the finish line first and secon d . After they untangled, White wa s ab le to remou nt and finish thi rd , Mor ais would se ttle for fourth. In mot o two , Morais took the holesh ot with Tidwell, White, and Robert Simp son shad owing him . Wh ile all fou r bikes were streaki ng along for the nt..>xt fou r laps, Morais and Tidwell man~ aged to pull away from the others. Side by side, they fou ght for the lead all the way down to the last lap. Mea nwh ile, Wh ite pu lled ou t all the stops as he pa ssed Simpson and was gaining ground on the leaders. Catching them , the thr ee raced into the last comer and once again White d ived into Morais, and Tidwell, bu t this time onl y White went d own .
