ZJ Mike Mathews claimed victories in the Vintage One and Vintage Two classes for the WERA Vintage races held a t Road Atlanta Raceway . Ma thews sta rted the da y 0 (£ with a wi n in the Vin tage One class by engaging in a titanic stru gg le with Rixon Breck on . Bot h we re Honda CB350mounted wit h Mathews having a small edge in top speed a n d Breckon ma kin g u p g ro u nd un der braking. Math ews led the first two laps, but as they closed in on the Vintage Four field Breckon passed while braking going int o tum one. The ne xt lap found Mathews leading at the bridge a t th e e n d of t h e s tr ai g h ta w a y, but Breckon worked his magic going into tu m one fo r his second term in the lead. Brecko n wa s un abl e to hold off Mathews as he laid in wait for a final -lap effort. Breckon made h is move under bra king at the brid ge but was unable to ho ld his line a nd ran off on the dirt heading tow ards the finish line. Mathews was victorious whil e Breckon remained upright to cla im secon d p lace. Mathew s was victori ous in Vintage Two as he battled with Breckon again. This time Mathews wa s mounted on a Honda CB450 a nd had a n easier time d ealin g with Breckon . This race was combined with the Vintage Five class with Aaron Stevenson scoring his first victory of the season. Stevenson wa s mo unted on the b ig Kawasaki four-stroke as he battled with the twostrokes of Mar k Morrow and Stephen Foote. Ed Sa lley s to rm ed off the line f ro m h is fourth-row starting position to gain the lead and eventual victory in the Vintage Three class. Salley appeared to be rocket-mounted as he too k the lead during the first 100 ya rds a nd almos t coIJided with one of the front- row starters . Results ...
