Maico to dispense with Krugh, motoring to an
unchallenged fust-moto win.
Molo two would find the roles reversed, as
Krugh nailed the start for a great holeshot, with
Carter in hot pursuit. At the end of lap one Krugh
was still holding Carter off by inches, but it
wouldn't last. As the pair exited an uphill left
turn, Carter took an outside line. going around
Krugh sideways. The perfectly executed move
gave Carter the overall win and put an exclamation mark on the end of a perfect day of vintage
racing.

CARLSBAD, CA, NOV. 19
Round one of the annual AHRMA/Calzona
series gave Premier-class 500cc expert David
Boydstun little challenge today, as he ran a.way
and hid in moth motos, showing everyone how
fast old BSAs can actually go.
Not only did Boydstun post 1-1 scores in COr>vincing style, but doing it on a beautiful old BSA
Gold Star with the net weight of a Ford truck
made his talent even more apparent.
The Calzona series, which pits Arizona vintage racers against California's best, and a beautiful vintage track prepared by David Fisher,
explained the great turnout and full gates. But no
one could explain the speed of Sportsman 500cc
expert Greg Carter. In race one, Carter and Husqvarna-mounted Kevin Krugh left the line like
they were tied together. The pair immediately
pulled a huge lead on the pack, but after a few
laps Carter used the excellent handling of his big

Barry Carsten and Tony laRusso bOth claimed
Overall Pro Expert.<:Jass wins during the second
of three Fall Series races at Suffolk Meadows
Racetrack.
Carsten kicked off the first 12Sc~ Pro Expert
moto with the holeshot. Kevin Nowak, Eddie
Hololob, and Tony LaRusso chased after Carsten
into the ·Supercross Section." Thro~ghout lap
one Carsten set the lead pace as laRusso was on
"the gas and moved his way into second. Jim McD-
vaine then made a charge and secured thjrd
place. LaRusso tried to catch and pass Carsten,
but Carsten maintained the advantage and nailed
down the first-moto win. LaRusso followed clo...
ly in second as McDvaine trailed in third.
At the start of moto two, the Suzuki-mount.ed
Carsten again shot into the lead followed by
Nowak, Mcilvaine and LaRusso. During the first
lap, LaRusso quickly made his way up to second
place. Carsten and laRusso battled for the win as
the pair pulled away from the pack. The motQ
and overall win went to Carsten while LaRusso
earned second place with McDvaine taking third
on his Woodbridge Honda.
In the fust 250cc Pro Expert moto. laRusso
led the race from start to finish as the roles from
the l15cc class were reversed. and Carsten trailed
and finished in second.
Manchester Honda rider Rich Rogers grabbed
the early lead to start moto two. The stage was set
as Carsten was in second ahead of LaRusso in
third. Wasting no time, Carsten took over in the
lead as LaRusso twisted the wick and moved up
to challenge for the lead. Aboard his Manchester
Honda. LaRusso made the pass on Carsten and
motored into the lead. laRusso scored the win,
splitting overalls with Carsten and providing
some great race action.
second, now -between Chuck Kober and
jongkind. CR125 rider jongkind' caught and
passed Ayers but was having a hard time pulling
away from the CR25Q-mou.nted Ayers on the
high-speed course. The bigger engine finally paid
off as Ayers retook the lead with two laps
remaining. With the white flag out, Ayers experienced problems ~nd dropped from the race,
handing jongkind the win after 45 minutes on the
track. Kober finished second. Tim McNulty carne
from a dead-last start to take third over Goodwin.
