EVENTS. Maico to dispense with Krugh, motoring to an unchallenged fust-moto win. Molo two would find the roles reversed, as Krugh nailed the start for a great holeshot, with Carter in hot pursuit. At the end of lap one Krugh was still holding Carter off by inches, but it wouldn't last. As the pair exited an uphill left turn, Carter took an outside line. going around Krugh sideways. The perfectly executed move gave Carter the overall win and put an exclamation mark on the end of a perfect day of vintage racing. Results (pen, PREM ULT/L II EX: 1. Due to construction on the national" H tra~ only a few comers of it by"the scoring tower were being used, but riders were let loose on some extremely fast fifth- and sixth-gear hilly sections just west of the main park facility. The fast course agreed with Donnie Pines as he ran away from the field for the junior Vet Beginner.<:Jass win The KX25Q rider grabbed the early lead from the dead;,ngine start and built on it with each lap. Greg Wilkins ran second off the start, but within a lap was passed by Gabi Abayou and Bob Kelley. Abayou pulled clear of Kelley to run a safe second for most of the race. Boydstun dominates Carlsbad Vintage Motocross By Donald McGregor Photo by Donnie '-- Stamen CARLSBAD, CA, NOV. 19 Round one of the annual AHRMA/Calzona series gave Premier-class 500cc expert David Boydstun little challenge today, as he ran a.way and hid in moth motos, showing everyone how fast old BSAs can actually go. Not only did Boydstun post 1-1 scores in COr>vincing style, but doing it on a beautiful old BSA Gold Star with the net weight of a Ford truck made his talent even more apparent. The Calzona series, which pits Arizona vintage racers against California's best, and a beautiful vintage track prepared by David Fisher, explained the great turnout and full gates. But no one could explain the speed of Sportsman 500cc expert Greg Carter. In race one, Carter and Husqvarna-mounted Kevin Krugh left the line like they were tied together. The pair immediately pulled a huge lead on the pack, but after a few laps Carter used the excellent handling of his big 125 INT: L Oms Nelt2.e1 (Kaw~ 2. Brian Swtany (lion); 3. Jake 125 PRQ 1. Michael Brooks came from a midpack start to pass everyone but Ayers with only one lap completed. Brooks passed Ayers and was pulling away when trouble developed, leaving him with a DNF.
